Hmm... I think the initials in his name come in the middle, no? Etale 20:36, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The question of where to place his initials is a confusing one indeed. Varadhan's home page has it as S.R.Srinivasa, as it shows here, and surely he himself knows it best? But still the Abel Prize has it down as Srinivasa S.R., presumably not without reason. Looking for his own papers at Mathematical Reviews, I see both S.R.S, Srinivasa R.S., Srinivasa S.R., and S.R. Srinivasa (and also just S. and just Srinivasa). (There is also a Varadhan, Sowmini, but that seems to be a different person. Math Review staff tend to be pretty good at identifying when different names belong to the same person.) I don't know what to think about the whole thing, but maybe someone familiar with Indian culture could? Perhaps they just aren't so particular about the order of names when someone has mulitple given name. Hanche 17:36, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it appropriate to mention that one of his sons was among those who perished at the WTC on Sept 11? I don't want to pain him but he does mention this in the dedication of his book "Stochastic Processes".98.113.199.242 (talk) 18:57, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doctoral students

What is the point of having a large list of doctoral students he advised? Since seemingly most of them aren't notable enough to warrant their own Wikipedia page, shouldn't the list be deleted?Avman89 (talk) 19:35, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IAS Affiliation

Two suggestions:

  • Under "Career" it should be listed that he was a Member in the School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study for the 1991-1992 academic year; and
  • Institute for Advanced Study should be listed under "Institutions" in the infobox.

Not done no sources and we are not here to promote the Institute for Advanced Studies for you. David notMD (talk) 02:53, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
