Notability

@TJMSmith: Named professorships don’t establish notability under WP:PROF, they also have to be a distinguished professor. NYU uses named professorships as fundraising implements, most of them are not equivalent to a James B. Duke Professor or something like that. How do we know that this counts? @TJMSmith: the American Marketing Association isnt an academic association [1], its a professional one. You seem to be pinballing, maybe take a step back and think about whether this persona actually passes WP:PROF? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:19, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Horse Eye's Back, Fellows [2] seem to be elected based on their academic contributions. I believe Winer meets WP:PROF. He is highly cited (see his Google Scholar profile). I've made some improvements to the article. You are welcome to start an AfD or even discuss this on the PROF talk page. TJMSmith (talk) 17:24, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn’t matter what they’re elected for, its not a scholarly society or association as is required by WP:PROF. Based on what do you believe Winer meets WP:PROF? I don’t escalate to AfD unless talk page discussion has been exhausted, and it clearly hasnt been. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:27, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Horse Eye's Back, Some of your questions/points seem better suited for the PROF talk page (i.e. are Fellows of the AMA notable, are named professors at NYU notable). It may stir useful discussion. TJMSmith (talk) 17:36, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If I open a discussion there will you actually explain your arguments in detail instead of stalling and deflecting? Remember its you who needs to get consensus for your claims not me. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:43, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ritchie333: since you removed the notability tag without either explaining why in your edit summary might you provide an explanation here? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:05, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As a general rule of thumb, if you can write at least 1,500 bytes of prose on a subject, entirely from reliable sources (the basic yardstick for a Did you know? nomination), it is likely to be beneficial to the encyclopedia to have a spinout article, as opposed to existing in some other (such as a list of university alumnni). I appreciate you sharing your personal rule of thumb, but that doesn't explain why you removed the tag. Neither WP:GNG or WP:PROF has been strictly satisfied. I will attempt to find more reliable sources to satisfy GNG. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:32, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it for those reasons. A secondary reason can be found at User:Beyond My Ken/thoughts under "Tags" near the top. In fact, the whole page is worth reading if you have the time. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:34, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the future theres a better way to go about it and more is required of you (aka it would be immensely helpful if instead of just removing a tag you contributed to the ongoing talk page discussion about it), see WP:DETAG. If you could point me to some actual wikipedia policies that would be nice. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:37, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
