Thrown rondel?

"Daggers may also have been thrown at unseated enemy knights to force them to engage in battle, though a mace was perhaps better suited to this task." Can this sentence be clarified? I don't actually know what it means to force someone to engage in battle, or why this weapon would be thrown. Boris B (talk) 03:43, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
