Question

How did he feel about racism? He hated it

How did Smalls actions helped our world for the better? What actions did Small take to become part of worl wide history? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Susanovaeverything (talkcontribs) 23:33, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Books

Are there any books about him? Nunamiut (talk) 04:56, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

"A huge sum for the time"?

The reward received for the ship was $1500, adjusted for inflation 34,000. Why is this a huge sum rather than whatever 34 thousand today is? A nice amount but hardly a huge sum.--Jrm2007 (talk) 14:42, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Enslaved?

Since he was born into slavery, born a slave, can it be correctly stated, as in the beginning of the article, that he was "enslaved?" Doesn´t someone have to have enslaved him for him to be properly called "enslaved?" Why not just say he was a slave at the beginning of his life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cospelero (talkcontribs) 09:58, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia has a habit of doing this - a slave will be said to be "enslaved" by their owner even if they were born a slave, for some reason Wikipedia does not do this with other slave owning societies - for example we do not read that various people who were born slaves were "enslaved by" their Roman owners, Wikipedia seems to only use this language in relation to white people owning black slaves - part of the general racial obsession of Wikipedia.2A02:C7C:E124:800:DC38:84F0:C064:D9ED (talk) 10:05, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

==At that time unskilled labor earned c. $300/year, upper middle class labor earned c. $3,000/year, so yes that was a relatively large sum, comparable to perhaps $1M today in terms of the social position it would purchase. data source: http://gpih.ucdavis.edu/files/Occ_Pay_Rates_1850_July19a.xlsx Burressd (talk) 04:07, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

Why blockquotes?

"After the Civil War" contains three quotes from Smalls about the Republican Party. For some reason each one is set out as a blockquote. Shouldn't they just run on?, like all the other quotes in the article? Fishlandia (talk) 12:27, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Fixed them. Fishlandia (talk) 17:59, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

semi-protected

I've semi-protected the article for a bit due to vandalism. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 15:15, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

There seems to be no explanation how Smalls acquired the name Smalls.
