BLP Issues Comment

The allegations here should not be included here in their current form. They are supported by one source (a university student newspaper) that has published five articles. The first article's source is "according to three sources close to the student." That student never confirmed the allegations. The second article's source is a former student that alleges he had a relationship with her. The article cites the previous article and the link anchor text is "engaged in a sexual relationship" even though sexual activity is never alleged in that article. The third article is opinion-editorial and not reportage. The fourth said he'd been removed from teaching an honors course while the university investigated. The last one rehashes the previous ones and states that he resigned. He's not a public figure and these allegations violate WP:BLP policy in my opinion. The only established facts are that he was removed from teaching duties pending an investigation that was dropped when he resigned, and such facts do not belong in the biography of a private citizen. I am removing the material. Wilipino (talk) 21:13, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "confirmed" claim. Now the Wikipedia article does not say that the allegations are true, it only said that they were made, and that Kurzban resigned, which is borne out by the citations. ... discospinster talk 18:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As per WP:BLP, You can't list unconfirmed allegations in a Wikipedia article. Additionally, the source is a student newspaper that reported what "sources close to the student" said. That is not a reliable source. Further, the subject of this article is not a public figure. See WP:NPF. It is simply inappropriate to include this information here. Lastly, as per WP:BRD, don't re-add material before a consensus has been reached. I'm reverting until then. Wilipino (talk) 21:20, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IMO it is wholly appropriate to mention the reasons for, and context surrounding, Kurzban's resignation from Penn, which are well documented. Nangaf (talk) 06:10, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, I do not believe that the detail of the allegations needs to be included, per WP:BLP. It is, however, entirely relevant to Kurzban's biography that he was a tenured professor at Penn and held various other academic positions, and that he resigned them following an investigation into allegations of impropriety. Those are well established facts reported in reputable media, not mere student gossip. Nangaf (talk) 23:31, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Raised on [BLP noticeboard] to further consensus. Nangaf (talk) 23:41, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This section has lacked a reliable source since at least 2019. Since it apparently cannot be verified, I have deleted it. Nangaf (talk) 19:46, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
