Gosh self-identified as Gay and/or Transgender, so should this be mentioned?

I ask this only because I was surprised to see an older photo of him from before he began his female hormone treatment and before his breast implants which are mentioned in the article. Here is one Indian English-language Newspaper article that discusses his life and "out" status for those that need a reference. I won't make any changes until a consensus is reached but I am knowledgable in the field of both Bengali and Hindi films and knew his work well. Nobody in the film industry thought he was "hiding" his status as a trasngendered person. His later films were very direct in that regard and his personal choices of attire certainly left no doubt that he was at least exploring what we would call a "Transgender" lifestyle although most Indian newspapers would refer to him as "Gay" to be demure about it.LiPollis (talk) 10:53, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

      • If Rituparno Ghosh underwent Breast Reconstructive Surgery it was for his (or should we call, her)Gender Dysphoria rather than to make himself appear congruent for a film role as the article (although not the reference, curiously) seems to suggest. The other aspect is "abdominoplasty". Should it read Vaginoplasty as a Gender Reconstructive Surgery procedure for a gender dysphoric person, just that this was considered a taboo area to publish in a mainstream newspaper article? Or is abdominoplasty correct? Pronouns

The article has long used he/him, but there has been a recent editor who says (without any specific cites) that "lots of sources they found" use they/them. So first, WP:BURDEN is on someone who wants to make a change to support it with actual specific reliable sources. Here are just a few refs that specifically support he/him:

  • Using male pronouns throughout in "Gender in the Films of Rituparno Ghosh" (The International Encyclopedia of Gender, Media, and Communication, doi:10.1002/9781119429128.iegmc156)
  • "The majority of sources refer to Ghosh with he/his/him pronouns"—[1]
