--Vague Reportage of Book Sales--

I'm sad to say that some determined internet research on my part revealed that figures on sales of specific book titles is not available to the public. There is much speculation on the internet that this bizarre secrecy is a product of the publishing industry's desire to keep authors in the dark about sales, and described as a useful state of affairs for the industry in order to low-ball authors about sales volume and thereby rake in unmerited profits for the publishers - at the author's expense.

<My Personal Opinion>This sounds very familiar to me - and I suspect that this is in fact the reason for the dearth of information.</My Personal Opinion>

Just wondering why such information is not easily available...
