Redirects

I requested the deletion of Unapologetic Bitch (song) since a second redirect (with unnecessary disambiguation) is not needed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:17, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

I removed Living for Love from the list because it has it's own article now.--LurganShmith (talk) 22:23, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

History merge

Does anyone know how to do a history merge? I added over 12KB of content from my sandbox, but the history is still pending. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 13:41, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

I think you have to do it manually. View the edit history, copy the html from the edit comparison section, and paste it where ever you need it ... is that what you're referring to?--LurganShmith (talk) 14:36, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Not exactly, I was talking about the editing history. I swear I remember seeing somewhere that the editing history from a sandbox was merged to the live article, but can't remember where. :( —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 15:21, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
they probably did it manually ... sorry --LurganShmith (talk) 15:39, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Credits

Are Instagram posts considered reliable sources? If so, Maureen MacDonald a.k.a. MoZella confirmed via Instagram that the songs she co-wrote for the new album include not only "Living for Love", but also "Unapologetic Bitch", "Illuminati", "Bitch I'm Madonna" and "Joan of Arc".

Furthermore, it was confirmed by Madonna's official website that "Ghosttown" was co-produced by Billboard and that "Devil Pray" was co-produced by DJ Dahi and Blood Diamonds. There is no mention of Avicii or Carl Falk having co-produced the song, though it has been confirmed that they co-wrote the song. --MsigDK (talk) 16:15, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

If using either of those, her official website would be better. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:56, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Actually the iTunes metadata confirms this to be true. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 17:05, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Strangely, if you download the songs from the Danish iTunes or Google Play stores, the metadata credit Madonna herself as the sole writer of all songs.MsigDK (talk) 18:15, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Is it? :O Guy Oseary should be notified of that then. The US iTunes works fine though. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 02:58, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Songwriting credits as per the ASCAP Repertory database:

  • "Living for Love" written by Arielle, Ciccone Madonna L, Gad Tobias, McDonald Maureen Anne and Pentz Thomas Wesley. Work ID 887964905.
  • "Unapologetic Bitch" written by Arielle, Ciccone Madonna L, Gad Tobias, McDonald Maureen Anne and Pentz Thomas Wesley. Work ID 887964903.

"Devil Pray" and "Ghosttown" haven't been added to the database yet. MsigDK (talk) 10:12, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

iTunes Mistake: It's "Veni Vidi Vici" NOT "Veni Vedi Vici"

Resolved

Oh my god, i hope on the album, this famous quote of Caesar will be right! It's wrong on Itunes! Someone should tell iTunes or Madonna this mistake! It's embarrassing! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.182.38.40 (talk) 12:47, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

This kind of talk is for forums, not Wikipedia. What proof do you have of the spelling being wrong? Artistic license entails to use any spelling. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 14:19, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

It is a mistake, the word "vedi" doesn't exist! And in older mentions it was correct. It's not a topic just for a forum. The talk page on Wiki is for things like this. We will see. I say it's a mistake. "Vedi" makes absolutely no sense!

Song titles aren't required to "make sense". As mentioned, people can use any spelling/word choice for titles that they want. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:14, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Why don't we just wait until the physical album is released, they probably won't get it wrong there right? — Tomíca(T2ME) 16:20, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Three more songs from the album are now available on iTunes

Tracks 7-9 are now available on iTunes.[1] Although there is not a post on Madonna official site yet confirming those addition tracks, I believe there will be, like the post about the release of Living for Love EP of remixes on iTunes. YouTube videos from Madonna's official channel on YouTube from the songs are now available.[2][3][4] Sorry, I do not know how to get my own IP to sign my comment, nor I have a current account on Wikipedia. I really apologize for this.

Thank you, they will be added shortly. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 15:53, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Additional information.

Forbes stated that Madonna was the most watched moment on the 2015 Grammy's, I think this should be mentioned int he promotion section.

Furthermore, Rebel heart topped many iTunes charts. I know that the three songs that have just been released "Hold Tight" "Joan of Arc" & "Iconic" are currently at the top of the world itunes chart & she in number one in 92 iTunes countries. With the right source this should be added on commercial response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.217.132.252 (talk) 07:49, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Standard edition cover

Its a different cover used for the standard edition as per Amazon.com. I know we usually list the standard edition cover, but in this case the Deluxe edition received widespread media coverage because of the memes and MLK issue and all. So I believe we can keep only the Deluxe one. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 10:18, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey IndianBio! I think you can use both of them since they are significantly different. We have a Talk That Talk situation here. I guess there are will be critics commenting the standard too. — Tomíca(T2ME) 10:33, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Wait and see. AmazonMP3 and iTunes both use the B&W cover for the standard version listings. The deluxe version may also sell significantly more than the standard, rendering the inclusion of the standard unnecessary. –Chase (talk / contribs) 18:03, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Agree with Chasewc. It can be the same case as Celebration, whose the deluxe version is widely marketed than the standard version. Just wait and see... If the standard cover gets notable response, then we should include both covers. Bluesatellite (talk) 19:05, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
I think that the standard edition cover should be the one on the infobox. In the MDNA article, the cover shown is the standard one, even thought the deluxe edition cover (the close up of her face) got more media coverage. The official Universal Music Store confirmed already the standard cover for this album. --Mr00Mister (talk) 00:18, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
No I have to agree with Chase and Bluesatellite. The deluxe wire around face version is widely circulated and has received much much more third party notability than the standard red sweater picture. This I'm sure was not the case with the MDNA covers. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 05:42, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Positive Support. Regularly, standard edition covers should be uploaded in the infobox, never the Deluxe. @Bluesatellite Regardless of how widely known an album cover is, it is an cover that has been confirmed by the label themselves and should not matter if either one is more popular than eachother.

Also weren't both covers released at the same time?

Here is a list of versions of Rebel Heart.

Standard Edition

Deluxe

Super Deluxe Edition

Like Bluesatellite, we'll see if Madonna does promote the album on US Television and we'll see the Hosts hold up whatever CD copy they have. Smarty9108 (talk) 06:03, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, the notability of content is the most concerned aspect in Wikipedia. The standard cover never receives coverage from WP:RS, unlike the deluxe one which got much publicity on social media and press. Also per WP:NFCC, fairuse image should have contextual significance, which we can't find on the standard cover. As for your release question, no, the deluxe edition was released first during the pre-order back in December 2014. In term of marketing, the deluxe edition was also the one promoted during Madonna's apperances on television shows (watch Che tempo che fa or Le grand journal). Lastly, all digital versions of the album used the wired-face artwork, (see standard explicit and standard clean), which indicates that only the physical release of the standard edition using the red-sweater artwork. So what else? Bluesatellite (talk) 10:40, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

(←) I was at Walmart yesterday and can verify that the standard version artwork for physical pressings uses the red shirt cover. I have had a change of heart. Since the B&W cover and red shirt cover are being promoted in stores side-by-side, I think it will enhance the reader's understanding by showing both covers. Obviously the more notable B&W cover should remain at the top of the infobox, with the physical standard cover being used in the alternative cover field. It's not exactly a matter of RS coverage, it's a matter of availability, and especially when the covers differ so drastically. (Note that MDNA and Celebration use similar covers – virtually identical, in the case of Celebration – for standard/deluxe, unlike Rebel Heart.) I don't have particularly strong feelings about this, however. What do others think? –Chase (talk / contribs) 16:46, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

If we are talking about third party notability, I believe there is an interview with Mert and Marcus, the photographers for the covers, so that we can establish some light on the standard cover. But its a physical magazine and I did not find it online. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 16:52, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Tracklist Poland

In Poland super deluxe edition contains 2 additional tracks "opus", "the fall"

http://www.empik.com/rebel-heart-super-deluxe-edition-madonna,p1106090649,muzyka-p

I suppose this is a copy-paste error. It's probably no coincidence that the two last tracks on the Standard Edition of Imagine Dragons' latest studio album, Smoke + Mirrors, are titled "Hopeless Opus" and "The Fall". MsigDK (talk) 12:41, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Tracklist question

On Madonna's official website, it lists "Queen" as a part of the super deluxe edition of the album. However on Amazon, and on the actual article, it is not included. Has anyone looked into this? (http://www.madonna.com/newalbum)  — TheMadonnaMusicCN (talk, contribs) 20:28, 2 March 2015(UTC)

Several people have received their copies of the Super Deluxe edition today. The tracklist on madonna.com is wrong. "Auto-Tube Baby" is included only on the German MediaMarkt editions of the album, while "Queen" remains unreleased. 130.226.87.174 (talk) 11:56, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Sophie

My copying Sophie's name from the Track listing section into the infobox was reverted as unsourced. I've re-added him with a reference, but it seems inconsistent (and misleading) to only cite one of the producers. It seems to me that the infobox should have inline citations covering each of the producers, or not at all. hinnk (talk) 02:41, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

UK Chart positions.

Rebel heart reached #2 in the UK, as mentioned but it has also reached number 3 on the UK physical albums chart & number 1 on the UK download albums chart.

This should be added to the charts section. Other albums, I.e. MDNA have various other sub charts listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.223.206.190 (talk) 20:56, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Not sure if it's worth listing, but the super deluxe tracks have been released for purchase separate from the main album. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:20, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Any information on how this will affect the charts? —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 05:28, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Not that I can find. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:56, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
I think the people who brought the concert ticket will download the deluxe version + the EP version, which probably means that they count twice for the charts. So if 1.000 audience decide to redeem their ticket/album code, they will be translated as 2.000 units sold for Rebel Heart. Another posibility, the EP will be counted on charts as separate release. I'm not really familiar with the chart rule :p Bluesatellite (talk) 07:39, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
As for the physical release of the Super Deluxe edition, RIAA will definitely count the shipment twice, because it consists of two CDs and over 100 minutes lenght, just like Evita and Celebration. Bluesatellite (talk) 07:49, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Oh-k, that's why they are certified so much. I thought Evita was definitely overshipped for 5 million sales. So lemme get this straight and confirm my understanding. Suppose the following are the sales of Rebel Heart in US. Standard (200,000) Deluxe (150,000) Super Deluxe (75,000) → The RIAA will count this as 200,000 + 150,000 + (75,000 × 2) = 500,000 and certify it Gold. Is that how Celebration was certified? Can some one explain to me? —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 08:55, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes, that's right. They're double CDs, and RIAA counted each album as two units shipped. Bluesatellite (talk) 10:47, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Cover art feud

Why not we just add all three covers?? The standard as the main one, and expand the inbox to include the other two. I think it applies. --189.140.128.92 (talk) 18:30, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

67.85.7.160 (talk) 19:33, 18 March 2015 (UTC) you should also list the Billboard chart known as TOP ALBUM SALES for Madonna "Rebel Heart" , since she is #1 there and not just #2 like on the Billboard 200, it should be like that for every artist on Wikipedia because not everyone realizes the difference now

Not done - Top Album Sales chart differs from the Billboard 200. The former is just a pure album chart. IPadPerson (talk) 20:31, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Should it not be mentioned that on the Billboard Digital albums chart & Top album sales chart that Madonna's Rebel Heart reached number 1? http://www.billboard.com/charts/digital-albums http://www.billboard.com/charts/top-album-sales — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.223.206.190 (talk) 23:32, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

No they are component charts of the main Billboard 200 chart. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 06:03, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

I don't agree. Top Album Sales is a seperate chart and should be mentioned. Digital albums chart however I agree is a component chart. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.136.34.252 (talk) 22:58, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Nope. It does not matter if you agree. Billboard 200 = Top Album Sales + Track Equivalent Albums + Stream Equivalent Albums now. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 06:01, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Foreign charts

Isn't it the policy in Wikipedia that foreign charts are only included in the charts table when the album has NOT debuted on the overall albums chart? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Record_charts

"Rebel Heart" debuted at #3 in Croatia. http://www.hdu-toplista.com/index.php?what=arhiva&w=details&id=1468 And at #16 in South Korea. http://gaonchart.co.kr/main/section/chart/album.gaon?termGbn=week&hitYear=2015&targetTime=12&nationGbn=T

Why are those charts excluded from the table and the foreign charts of those countries used instead? Those positions have to be included in the charts section.

Why is it necessary to mention the international Japanese chart if it has charted on the overall charts as well? Just because it's #1 in the international charts and the charts table will look better with more #1s? Those countries' charts are mainly local, yes, but that's not a reason to exclude the overall charts if the album has charted there. Other western acts achieve #1s in those countries, she included with previous albums. Foreign charts, just like component charts, are to be used when the album doesn't debut on the overall chart. Rub rb (talk) 20:38, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

@Rub rb: No, which statement of WP:CHARTS that prohibits the usage of foreign charts? Don't try to make policy when it doesn't exists. Foreign chart is NOT a component chart (mathematically used for main charts tabulation, like Top Sales chart, Digital Sales chart, or Streaming chart). It's just an subsidiary/exclusive chart (in this case for international artists), and it's just the same as Scotish Albums Chart, Australian Urban Chart, US R&B/Hip hop Albums chart. From your user contributions, I see that you are very interested in Lady Gaga, and then I'm not sure why you let the Croatian and Taiwanese foreign charts on Born This Way? What about Croatian and Korean foreign charts on Cheek to Cheek? Bluesatellite (talk) 02:24, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Just to let you know, that is Nympho from UKMIX, an extremely biased user on the Lady Gaga forums there. I would not take his biased concerns with any importance. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 04:51, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

lowest first week sales for a studio album in the UK?

That bit probably needs to be adjusted. Somehow I don't think her first or second albums sold more than that in their first week.

It is per the OCC input which is taken from Music Week. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 12:12, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes, well clearly some common sense needs to be exercised here. Madonna's first two albums did not sell more than that in their first week. Like A Virgin entered the chart at number 74, while Madonna entered the chart at number 85. Neither of which are positions that one would associate with sales with of over 37,000.

I've just read the article you are referring to. It states that it is her lowest selling first week sales for 'at least 20 years'. Completely different from 'lowest first week sales ever' or how ever it has been worded on this page.

"Super Deluxe" cover

I noticed the cover picture for the standard edition has been added. I wanted to ask if it would be possible or appropriate to add the picture for the "Super deluxe" edition as well?? can be seen here --Chrishm21 (talk) 03:13, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Not unless it meets criterion#8 of WP:Non-free content criteria. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:33, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Well SNUGGUMS, it belongs to a different edition of the album. Is not the standard nor the normal 'deluxe' edition. It's a completely different one as It contains another CD with new and different tracks. I think that makes it appropriate to add the cover; but what do you think?? --Chrishm21 (talk) 17:32, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm not exactly convinced it's notable enough to include; the super deluxe edition's cover hasn't received nearly as much attention as the deluxe cover or even as much as the standard cover. Snuggums (talk / edits) 21:39, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Amazon and several retail stores here in Mexico carry that edition (with that cover) instead of the standard one and, as it's noticeably different, I do believe it should be added (that's just my opinion tho). Perhaps if we got somebody else's thoughts?? --Chrishm21 (talk) 22:41, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Attention received is not something any of us can measure, but as long as the other two versions are present, there should be no reason to exclude the super deluxe cover either. Even Billboard is using that as their preview image of the album. Widr (talk) 23:39, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
There actually IS reason; NFCC#3 requires a minimal use of non-free content while NFCC#8 requires contextual significance. One must ask how such content benefits an article before inserting it. Only add if it provides benefits that cannot be conveyed through free content, and album covers are non-free. While it's best to use only standard cover in most cases, the reason why deluxe is beneficial is because it sparked controversy when it spawned memes involving public figures. I'm not so sure the super deluxe edition's cover has had such scrutiny. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:54, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Well, I personally believe the cover should be added, but if you, an user with more experience, feels it's not needed nor should be added, I guess we won't be adding it. --Chrishm21 (talk) 18:23, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
I personally don't see the need to add the standard one as well. The deluxe one received so much third party notability that the other two are simpy like in the shadows. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 07:03, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
I do not see the need to add in a third cover art; the deluxe/digital artwork is the most recognizable album associated with Rebel Heart since it was put on the iTunes Store for pre-order. Even having the standard physical cover is pushing the non-free content criteria, but that bares difference from the deluxe so its inclusion is important. livelikemusic my talk page! 12:51, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Hold Tight

According to "Lescharts", the official French discography page for Madonna, it lists "Hold Tight" as the fourth single from Rebel Heart, released on November 23, 2015. Is this at all true? Carbrera (talk) 00:26, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

The official Italian discography page also states the same thing. I'm sure it's the same on all of these discography pages. Carbrera (talk) 00:35, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi Carbrera, please see this link for Hold Tight. It was released as a promotional single in Italy and hence it is listed as such. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 10:08, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, but it lists a different release date, hence my confusion. Carbrera (talk) 23:01, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Not sure where you are seeing "Hold Tight" but this link shows "Devil Pray" instead. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 23:17, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
My bad, it was "Devil Pray". Whoops. My eyes must be lying to me. I swear it said "Hold Tight" yesterday. So, is this true? Carbrera (talk) 00:15, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
No, there were rumors of "Devil Pray" being an European single and it was listed as such in the Europe music market discograpies. But it never was released, probably got scrapped, however the discography it never corrected. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 09:54, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Pop&Justice's Best Albums of 2015

This might be cool to add as well: PopJustice included Rebel Heart on their Best Albums of 2015 list. Source: http://www.popjustice.com/albums-of-the-year/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimoincolor (talkcontribs) 18:05, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Accolades - Spin Magazine 'The 25 Best Pop Albums of 2015'

On the page it says that in Spin Magazine's list it has ranked rebel heart at number 25, however, it is actually ranked 21st on the list.

Lowest first week sales for a studio album in the UK?s

I've seen this statement several times on here. It's not true. Bearing in mind the debut positions of 'Madonna' and 'Like A virgin', it is safe to assume they both sold less than Rebel Heart in their first weeks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.20.216.77 (talk) 11:25, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

50.201.141.102 (talk) 13:52, 5 May 2016 (UTC) The US sales total is not 116,000. The information included about US sales blatantly shows that at least 142,000 is her US minimum. (116,000 + 26,000)

Not done Total sales should come from a reliable source and not per WP:SYNTH. —IB [ Poke ] 14:04, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
