Talk:RP Photonics Encyclopedia

I am User:RPaschotta, the author of the encyclopedia. Because of my COI, I ask that someone else publishes the following additional information in a suitable form:

Since March 2019, the online version of the encyclopedia is titled "RP Photonics Encyclopedia". The old name "Encyclopedia of Laser Physics and Technology" has been abandoned here, because massive content has been added outside the area of laser technology (already more than 100 articles between January and May 2019) - particularly in general optics. There are currently 784 encyclopedia articles (as of 2019-05-06), and there will be further additions soon.

The book remains available with the old title "Encyclopedia of Laser Physics and Technology".

So my suggestion would be (a) to create a new page "RP Photonics Encyclopedia", describing its scope and nature, and (b) to explain the situation on the old page "Encyclopedia of Laser Physics and Technology". I think the old page should remain because (a) the book with the old title still exists and (b) numerous Wikipedia authors have referenced encyclopedia articles, sometimes linking to that Wikipedia page. Updating all those links would of course be nice, but tedious and in my view not essential, if the linked page is updated appropriately.

Done (mostly).--Srleffler (talk) 04:47, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. In order to better reflect the scope of the encyclopedia, as it has developed in recent years, I suggest the following updated text:
The RP Photonics Encyclopedia (formerly Encyclopedia of Laser Physics and Technology) is an encyclopedia of optics and photonics. For example, it covers laser technology, optical fibers, optical communications, optical metrology and ultrashort pulses.[1] It is available online as an open-access resource, but also as a two-volume book.[2] As of May 2019, the online version of the encyclopedia contains 791 articles.
Its author is Dr. Rüdiger Paschotta, founder of the consulting firm RP Photonics Consulting GmbH[3] in Bad Dürrheim, Germany.

dead links

Someone sent me a link to rp-photonics.com and it is dead with a German comment.

So I cam here and all the links are dead as well. Is RP Photonics offline? Can someone who knows update the wiki? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.191.170.61 (talk) 12:20, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be up now. Perhaps it was just a temporary outage.--Srleffler (talk) 05:10, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
