Talk:RETScreen

From WikiProjectMed
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The purpose of this Wikipedia article is to provide a central resource for Wikipedia users to discover RETScreen that is freely and widely available. RETScreen will continue to be updated and improved so we will need to reflect this in the Wikipedia article. We also need to ensure that the external references and links to useful supporting and complementary resources are current.

Ideally, we would need to have multi lingual versions of this article for Wikipedia users around the world, reflecting RETScreen's international value. --RichardHellen (talk) 19:32, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Richard, you'll see from the heading on the topic that it needs more references. The problem (as far as I can think) is that independent references to the software are few and far between. Can you think of any? Brigdonnwrgwyrdd (talk) 12:37, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seven one-sentence paragraphs all begining with RETScreen. Quite frankly if you were looking for an idea for a brochure or advertising copy, you couldn't do better. Not only are the WP:RS extremely weak, but it is definitely WP:ADVERT by our rules, even if it were not intended as such. IMO, it needs cleaning up and properly sourcing very quickly before soemone serves a WP:CSD on it. Perhaps it can be rewritten in a way that avoids it sounding promotional at all, and being sup)plied with some published articles about it in reognised scientific journals.--Kudpung (talk) 13:54, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken - We will seek out suitable external references quickly. We are keen that others in the sustainable energy field finds RETScreen and put it to the use for which it is intended, and as a free resource in this critical area, we do need to make RETScreen as accessible as possible. We're on it.

Sounds good, but please remember that this is an encyclopedia and not a directory of software.solutions. There is nothing I can do if someone else tags it for deletion.--Kudpung (talk) 10:52, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We have found an external reference that compares RETScreen with a broad spectrum of software tools for analysing the integration of renewable energy into energy systems which will be added to the reference regarding the number of RETScreen downloads. [1]. Any views on the acceptability of this as an independent reference?RichardHellen (talk) 08:36, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Richard - I think that anything peer-reviewed will be fine. Brigdonnwrgwyrdd (talk) 09:47, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that the page is now properly referenced with external, verifiable content, and that the 'primary sources' tag should be removed. In line with the guidelines here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tagging_pages_for_problems#Removing_tags - I propose removing the tag if there is no objection within the next few days. I know that there is an interest in changing the title of this page to RETScreen rather than Retscreen, but I've checked under the formatting guidelines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28capital_letters%29#Mixed_or_non-capitalization), and it's unambiguous in that the latter is preferred. Edit to the above - it appears that's for trademarks, rather than titles. So I've gone ahead with the change Brigdonnwrgwyrdd (talk) 15:26, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

External links modified

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on RETScreen. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).
