Barque?

The rig of this ship is mentioned as barque in newspaper reports of her wreck. Lloyd's register may be an appropriate source (though they are know to have made a few errors.) ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 20:16, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Lloyd's Register of 1880 [1] shows the rig as barque. She is listed as a ship in 1874 to 1875 and as a barque in 1876-77. I could not get the 1875-76 copy to load. ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 21:27, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Found it! 1875 is the first year that Lloyd's Register lists Queen of Nations as a barque. Thankyou for doing all the tedious work of searching all the editions of Lloyd's Register before and after that year to narrow it down.

The Internet Archive's search function seems to struggle with Lloyd's Register. I suspect there are at least three reasons for this. 1. It depends how common a word one uses as a search term. 2. Before a certain date, Lloyd's sometimes used a long dash instead of the first word of a name. Queen of Australia would be followed by —— of Beauty, —— of Britain, and so on, instead of repeating "Queen" in every name. 3. In some cases, the left hand margin of right hand pages (if you understand what I mean) is too rolled-over to be scanned properly. I find I have to manually turn the electronic pages to search the digitised book the old-fashioned way. Motacilla (talk) 10:12, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

I wonder if you are using the most efficient entry point for Lloyd's register of ships. My route in is [2] which, once you choose the year, gives you a slider bar for the right part of the alphabetical listing.
