Pustec → Liqenasi – The settlement here has an ethnic Macedonian majority but is without dispute in Albania. The Macedonian name is Pustec, so yes it is used by the majority. I feel however that its name in the official language of the state should take precedence, particularly in cases where both variations may be used (it tips the balance that way). This source[1] names it by the proposed change, but I fear that if this and others similar be allowed to remain, it may set a nasty precedence across the entire site for names of settlements with linguistic minority majorities, including countless across the same region. --Oranges Juicy (talk) 11:30, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Actually, Pustec is now the official name. This is now the case with all villages in the municipality. I moved these articles last year; take a look at Talk:Pustec Municipality where I provided links such as this one stating the change in naming. In addition, "Pustec" is the wp:commonname since it has 139 results on Google books, while "Liqenas" ("Liqenasi" is the definite Albanian form) has only 62. --Local hero talk 17:57, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Question: If the official name has changed, and given all six letters of Pustec have the same pronunciation in both languages, why is the Albanian article still at Liqenasi when there is evidently no linguistic issue and when Albanian is still the state's primary language? --Oranges Juicy (talk) 12:41, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- The Albanian Wikipedia is hardly a model Wikipedia. If you look at that article, however, you'll see that someone has edit the text to be 'Pustec' and noted the name change, although the article's title has not changed. --Local hero talk 14:25, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Interlanguage links
FYI I edited the interlanguage links at Wikidata. Half the ones about the village of Pustec were linking to the Municipality of Pustec, and the other way around. I searched thoroughly and I'm sure I got them all, but please keep an eye out. Wikimandia (talk) 15:05, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Bulgarian minority in Albania.
The Bulgarian minority was recognized by the Albanian government as a separate community in October 2017. There is a source confirming the name of the village in Bulgarian. The Bulgarian community there has its historical roots long before the Macedonian ones. Do not delete them. Thanks. Jingiby (talk) 12:06, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

- I agree with User:Local hero. There are currently no official sources confirming a Bulgarian presence currently in Pustec. Therefore to avoid confusion about modern demographics, I support the Bulgarian name being only in the history section. Kromid (talk) 02:33, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- As pointed out by Jingiby, the place may be listed with its Bulgarian name per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) which do not refer to current ethnic composition. Apcbg (talk) 05:39, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

- What kind of argument is that? Should we put the Macedonian name in the lead of Blagoevgrad since the Macedonian minority was once recognised there?
