Footnotes

Footnotes come after punctuation. See Wikipedia:Footnotes#Where to place reference tags for more information. Neil916 (Talk) 06:50, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That guideline is currently under dispute, because no consensus can be found to prescribe that formatting. Many respected journals put the footnotes before punctuation, and I, for one, see no reason why articles should not be allowed to do likewise. --Stemonitis 06:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see there is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Footnotes proposing to change the Wikipedia house style that you are involved in, and I see that you have reverted the work I put in to change the footnote style to the format listed in the Wikipedia MoS, back to a different one. A bit of an annoyance due to the time invested, but it's my bad because I wasn't aware that people wanted to change it. I won't re-revert you, but I'll leave it up to you to fix them again if there isn't consensus to change the house style. For now, that discussion appears to be stalled and isn't going anywhere. Rating

I'm doubtful that this article has gone through enough review to warrant this A-class rating. Given its length (around one screen), I would think it had significant potential for expansion. Richard001 (talk) 09:59, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
