This is interesting because the British firm of May and baker also took out a patent on Prontosil in 1935. Can anyone come up with exact dates please?

Translation to French and Mayer and Baker

I am working on a translation of Prontosil English page to French. You can have a look here (see lower) on my slow progresses.

I am not sure that Prontosil was patented by Mayer May and Baker, but I think that Septoplix was (possibly in 1937), this Septoplix being the sulfamide isolated from Prontosil at Institut Pasteur in the laboratory headed by Ernest Fourneau, at the same time that it was patented by Rhône-Poulenc (Mayer and Baker being then a filiale of this last firm). I go on working on the subject, hoping I will soon be able to find sure references. Forgive my English and, please, try to by quite : I understand your language slightly less badly than I write it. I am now able to precise that two firms (Specia, Théraplix) had the commercial exploitation of Rhône-Poulenc drugs. May & Baker, English firm associated with Rhône-Poulenc, had patented in 1937 the sulfapyridine (Dagenan). Septoplix, patented by Théraplix (also in 1937, I think), is the same molecule as 1160 F, the sulfamide (p-aminophénylsulfamide), when Dagenan, (sulfapyridine) is a derivative heterocyclic form of the sulfamide. References to two main first publications about sulfamides drugs.

Hello. Here are the two main references for the discovery of antibacterial properties of sulfamide (french word), by Fourneau and his team (Tréfouël, Nitti, Bovet), and not by Domagk. Domagk has discovered the action of Prontosil (sulfamidochrysoïdine), but not of sulfamide itself (para-aminobenzènesulfamide, or para-aminophénylsulfamide), abstracted by living organism from sulfamidochrysoïdine, and alone to be active.
