Autobiography of Malcolm X

I'd like to propose taking this book out of the American Prison Literature section, or alternatively, changing how it is described. I read it in school and it did talk about the time Malcolm X spent in prison (1946–1952) when he got interested in Islam and politics, but he was long out of prison when it was written, and (iirc) the prison part wasn't that major a part of the book. 173.228.123.121 (talk) 06:50, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. (I didn't add it originally.) If it wasn't written in prison, and isn't primarily about prison, then calling it "prison literature" is original research and we would need a source that approaches it as part of this genre. American women's prison literature

The section titled "American women's prison literature" contains three sources citing general prison pop. statistics, but nothing about literature. The only information about prison literature is uncited and reads like an opinion essay: "The works of literature these women write are testament to the power of women to overcome". This type of statement should be quoted and attributed to the author who said it, it's purely a subjective opinion ie. original research.

The only other sentence dealing with prison literature says "Many believe that these distinctions make this genre worthy of special study within the broader genre of women's prison literature." Again uncited, it uses the infamous phrase "many believe" which requires the reader to just trust that's true. Martin Luther and Dante

Luther was not in prison on the Wartburg. He was living there in disguise and hiding, but that's not the same as being imprisoned. Also Dante was in Exile, but not in prison.Michtrich (talk) 23:34, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
