Merge into Chaos (mythology)

I feel it's appropriate as it's own subject. (Although comparing it to other concepts outside of alchemy like chaos is appropriate... it's not quite the same thing) Most the content of the article is speculative theory without refs. Don't think much of it is useful but I'm copying it below before I remove it incase someone feels parts should be reintegrated with refs. Will work at adding in valid content.

The alchemical operation essentially consists of separating the prima materia, the so-called Chaos into two parts: the active principle (the soul) and the passive principle (the body). They are then reunited in personified form in the coniunctio, the ritual combination of Sol (the sun) and Luna (the moon). This yields the magical child — filius philosophorum — also known as the reborn self, the ultima materia. This collective unconscious appears in many religious, artistic, mythical, and dream symbols. The Ouroboros dragon biting its own tail depicts the original chaotic condition, which exists before the radical transmutation. It contains all the refined ingredients of the ultimate state in their uncooked form—the heat has yet to be applied to the unrefined material, raw uncooked emotion.

Therefore, we see not only the anguish and despair of the beginning, but the seeds of rejuvenation, rebirth, and promised illumination of the final stages of the process. Prima materia is the seed of the process, which takes place in the natural mind. It is the seed of enlightenment. The Crown of Creation is an overarching symbol equating with the top sphere Kether in Kabbalah. It triumphs over the terrible Dragon of the primal, unrefined condition, and it is represented by the dragon, or Terrible Mother. In the bottom-center of the symbol is Atlas holding the earth to symbolize the material sphere of Malkuth. Everything is one magical movement from Kether through Malkuth. Ego cannot separate itself from the powers and abilities of the subconscious. Conscious effort needs to be applied to undergo this process and find experiential spirituality. Prima Materia represents the crossroads or the crisis preceding a spiritual awakening (intellectual doubts, metaphysical problems).
