As the Pointer is no longer offered by Plaxton, but by Alexander Dennis, I renamed the article to reflect the current status of the vehicle. Although it may be better known as the "Plaxton" Pointer, Plaxton separated from Alexander Dennis in the ashes of TransBus as an independent, separate company once again and the Pointer was left with ADL. As it is effectively the same product, same history but with a different manufacturer I think a rename is more accurate than a new article. --Ayrshire--77 18:39, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

- Rather late response I know! Yes, I agree that it is the same product and that a separate article is unnecessary. However, I feel it would be more appropriate for the article to be named "Plaxton Pointer" and for "Alexander Dennis Pointer" to be a redirect. As long as all of the appropriate names point to the same article, the choice of which one should be the "primary" name is to some extent arbitrary, and I believe it should be the Plaxton one because:
- The product was the Plaxton Pointer for the greater part of its 15-year production life, covering a longer timespan than the other three marques combined
- As you say, it is better known as the Plaxton Pointer - 11,300 Google hits where none of the other names even manages 1,000
- The Ian Allan book "Bus and Coach Recognition" lists it under P for Plaxton
- Any other opinions? I'll check back in a week or so, and move the article back to the original name if the consensus is in agreement with me. Quackdave (talk) 18:17, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes! As I mentioned at WikiProject Optare, I believe this article should be called "Plaxton Pointer", for the reasons given above. As you say, it is known far for widely by the Plaxton name, look at the links, the are more for the Plaxton name than the Alexander Dennis one. Arriva436talk 19:32, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Variation on the Pointer?
I have memories of a variation of the Pointer that was used in the South East, where the Destination board was raised above the roofline, leading to an almost-comical lack of any aerodynamics. Anyone know what this was? -- 213.105.186.124 (talk) 22:37, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Are you sure you are not confusing this with the East Lancs Spryte? I know of no Pointers with such styling. aycliffetalk 21:38, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
