International "pirate party" article?

I suggest that we may create one article named "pirate party" that includes the common shared values and history of the movement. --Englishazadipedia (talk) 15:36, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Couldn't that go into the Pirate Party International article? 203.206.24.96 (talk) 03:58, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uniform Names

Shouldn't this article have all the pirate party names written in one fashion? Suggestions: "Pirate Party of X" , "Pirate Party (X)", or "X-ian Pirate Party" - (where X is the name of the country) - ArnoldPlaton (talk) 11:11, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They have different names, e.g. the German PP is called Piratenpartei Deutschland, which means Pirate Party Germany, the Austrian one is not called Piratenpartei Österreich but Piratenpartei Österreichs, comparable with Piratenpartei von Österreich, and must be translated with Pirate Party of Austria. Otherones are just called Pirate Party etc., that's the reason why I'd prefer the best translation of the original native name for each party.--Gamsbart (talk) 16:59, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Language / Translation of the article

This whole article is a joke, right? Incomprehensible Google Translate English kind of language with German sounding sentences and really bad if not even wrong information. How can this be online? Take the complete intro, or these two sentences: "Generality, the pirate parties for their commitment to reform copyright law, known among other things, the legalization of file sharing by private copying. The Pirate parties are seen as representatives of the criminal pirates seen." ... Doesn't anyone else feel the deep need to rewrite these? VOoiJe (talk) 19:43, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do, unfortunately the sentences are so malformed I can't decipher their meaning, let alone rewrite them with better wording. Does anyone know what the original source is?

The original text was apparently a machine translation of the German article. I've now made an attempt to perform a proper manual translation of the German article instead and have replaced all of the sections except the list of national parties in the process. I don't think it's a perfect translation by any means, but hopefully you agree that it is a significant improvement. --Tobias K. (talk) 03:32, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also referring to "pirate" as a 'reappropriation' of the term by media companies is not correct, it is a 'misappropriation'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Billse10 (talkcontribs) 17:38, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

Who else thinks that the grammar in this post is atrocious? I would do a complete rewrite and cleanup, but I don't have the time or the motivation. Anyone wanna take it on? haha 208.102.9.17 (talk) 02:06, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

National Elections

In the section "Pirate Parties in national elections" Sweden is listed 2 times please review

EU Election

Dates in the table "Pirate Parties in EU Election 2009" are clearly wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.210.219.132 (talk) 22:54, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re-arrangement of Germany pirate parties

the german pirate parties is starting to look a bit messy, with all the different rows. anyway to make this more concise or re-arrange ? --Richhaddon (talk) 14:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

added collapsible table to article, may need tweaking have done for other parties with 2 or more subgroups see User:Richhaddon/pirate party table --Richhaddon (talk) 21:50, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unanimity of positions among different Pirate Parties

The article claims that Pirate Parties support "free education, universal healthcare and a clear separation between church and state". This statement is not founded. Some Pirate Parties might indeed support these ideas formally, but this is by no means unanimous. For example, the "separation between church and state" is something that very few parties formally support. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.65.246.59 (talk) 15:34, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article also claims that the parties support direct democracy as a matter of course. They don't. Some do, some do only for internal decision making and some don't at all. Piratenfiber (talk) 20:46, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Austrian Pirate Parties

Piraten Partei Tirol is not a state party of Piratenpartei Österreich, it split from the national party in 2011. It seems that the city councillor who was elected as a PPT member left them and is now presenting himself as chairman of "Inn Piraten" (named after the river that flows through the state).Choehek (talk)

South African Pirate Party

It seems judging by this facebook page there is an unregistered but active party in South Africa: https://www.facebook.com/PiratePartySouthAfrica?ref=ts&fref=ts

Should it be added to the list? -- Darthdyas (talk) 21:16, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Elected representative section

The Pirate Party of Iceland currently has six representatives in parliament and previously had 10. Given this success, is it maybe time to stop listing every elected representative? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.220.125.157 (talk) 19:16, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ideology and concept split

The concept of a green party and the ideology of green politics have separate articles. Should the same be done for the concept of a pirate party and the ideology of pirate politics (right now pirate politics redirects to pirate party)? HapHaxion (talk / contribs) 03:12, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Social Liberalism

I am not sure if all Pirate Parties are inherently social liberal. There are too different alignments changing for the party. For example some members of Pirate Party of Turkey including one leader currently do entryism in Workers' Party of Turkey, a Marxist-Leninist political party. Also Pirate Party of Catalonia is led by an anarcho-communist. --Comrade-yutyo (talk) 11:52, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe this is debatable in a minority of cases but I think in the vast majority of cases Pirate Parties are typically socially liberal and I think this should be included amongst the list of ideologies. Helper201 (talk) 04:42, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Its really hard to define the overall Pirate Politics as such tho, because the first pirate party and several pioneers of the movement such as Falkvinge and Smári McCarthy have quite differing political views that shall collide with the majority of pirate parties including the current Pirate Party International cadres. I would say that Big tent is very good description of the political allignment of the movement. --Comrade-yutyo (talk) 09:12, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Change Australia's election status colour

Can someone please help change Australia to Aqua or whatever shade is being used for "Unregistered but active"? They have voluntarily deregistered from local elections. -- Tytrox (talk) 07:41, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tytrox, I would recommend posting your request here - Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop. Someone there should hopefully be able to help fulfil your request. Helper201 (talk) 15:59, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need to clarify "reform of copyright law"

"Some campaigns have included demands for the reform of copyright and patent laws." I honestly can't tell from this whether they're campaigning for a relaxation of restrictions on copying or for stronger restrictions. I can probably guess from the use of the word "pirate", but it would be good to have a bit more detail on the page. Jowa fan (talk) 09:56, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
