Pig farming and disease reservoirs

I have not noted the existence of an article section anywhere which talks to the notion that pig populations, in particular those which close association with both humans and birds, can serve as good reservoirs and mutation beds for viruses, in particular influenza. Would editors think such a section would fit better here, in Domestic pig, Pig or some other article? --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:04, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

The English in the last sentence of text following the name "butcher hog" in the terminology list is very poor. Instead of "This for have hind legs suitable to produce cured ham" it should say something like "Pigs of this size have legs that are suitable for making cured hams." The section that ends with the Prohand paragraph appears to be an advertisement.

There could be a much more comprehensive treatment of other environmental impacts as well as disease. The only ones covered are from interactions with handlers and the negative impacts this can have on both the pigs and the handlers. I see no mention of adverse environmental impacts from waste disposal or CO2 emissions. I'd just like to suggest to add more specific impacts happened to fear, stress and decreased production. Also, you would add existing numbers of pig farms in the US in order to see current pig farms status. Adding some quantified reliable resource would be helpful.. just suggestion. thanks!

The article needs significant expansion in the Trade section. For example some additions to where in each country the pigs are raised and why, which may lead into ideal conditions to raise pigs. Furthermore what kind of cuts these pigs have would be useful in a page about Pig farming, it can also be linked to butcher. On the section on positive interaction, the following is written: "and if they are tricked into trusting their abusers, better meat can be obtained."

Terminology: "shoat"

The listed definition as "unweaned young pig, or any immature pig" goes counter to the definition in every other source (dictionaries, etc.) which specify "WEANED" only.
