Is that really Roman Mithras, "the Bull-Slayer" (2nd cty BC -- 5th cty AD), or rather Persian Mithra of the Zoroastrian (before Christ)?

Regarding your question on whether Phanes is linked with the Persian Mitras or the Roman Mithras the current scholarly opinion seems to be that mitras wasn't the basis for Mithras, although given the Roman tactic of Syncretism it's possibly that they borrowed elements of him for their miThras - the Roman version is the one that makes him linked with the 'world egg', and certainly the persian version isn't linked with the sun (because of the Persian Ahura Mazda). Mithras is depicted emergng from the 'world' egg on the University of Newcastle website: found here

This stub is self-contradictory (How can Night (Nyx) be older than Phanes if Phanes is first born?) and does not correspond at all to the account given in the Orphic poems (see Guthrie's Orpheus and Greek Religion chapter iV). Placement of this article

I see no discussion of the *direct* reference to "Greek mythology", although this is rather questionable. Phanes is no mythological figure. I would suggest to first link to Orpheus, 2. to Neoplatonism (important) and only in 3d place to mythology, or leave that out altogether. Obviously the lemma has to be expanded also. Support - Seems to be the primary topic. Out of all the articles, Phanes of Halicarnassus is clearly never referred as just "Phanes", whereas Phanes (butterfly), Phanes (organic chemistry) and Phanes (coin issuer) are stubs with little information and little to suggest that average readers are likely to search for them. David Livingstone Is Not A Reputable Source

To whom it may concern,

Found this article wanting to know more about Phanes, clicked on the citation to David Livingstone's "The Dying God," and with minimal digging found that Livingstone's books peddle anti-Semitic nonsense about how the course of history has secretly been manipulated for centuries by a shadowy group of sinister Kabbalists looking to take over the world. He's no "scholar," just a conspiracy theorist (his personal website is actually called "Conspiracy School," for crying out loud.) I'm deleting the citation to his work. Please be more careful.
