I wonder whether the Phanagoria synagogue is the earliest recorded north of Greece... --Ghirla -трёп- 02:14, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was a roughly contemporaneous Jewish community in Aquileia, which is approximately on the same lattitude as Phanagoria. see, e.g., [1] --Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 02:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correctness of coordinates?

If I look up the coordinates with Google Maps, they are in the middle of some agricultural fields far away from the sea. Considering the site has been excavated, the excavations should be visible from satellite images. The photo also gives the impression that the site should be closer to the sea, and that the current coordinates are wrong. Hopefully someone can track down the correct coordinates? --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 20:48, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

After a Google search I found a source which mentioned Sennoy. I started looking around that place on Google Maps, turned on the Panoramio photo layer and found the current coordinates. The old coordinates were quite mistaken. I've also found this source which mentions some more ancient authors such as Pseudo-Scymnus, Pseudo-Scylax and Hecataeus of Miletus (FGrH), which might be interesting sources for this article. This is a reminder to myself, but if anyone else can expand the article with those sources please go ahead. --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 22:10, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
