Merger proposal

After suggesting merging Serials, periodicals and journals into this page, i realized that it is more appropriately merged into Serial which is the more general term. Further, i'm not going to find the right template right now but i suggest renaming this page to Periodical and moving anything that no longer fits that term to wherever seems appropriate. --John_Abbe (talk) 02:53, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update Suggestion

If anyone updates this page they may want to consider adding a section on how serial numbers for periodicals work. (especially when you publish a volume and issue number: do you renumber the issues at the beginning of each year?) This must be quite obvious to professionals, but I don't find info on how to do it on Wikipedia. Tks. Katharine908 (talk) 15:51, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trade journals - a third category, not yet mentioned

The article currently says: "Periodicals can be classified into two types: popular and scholarly." Trade journals occupy a place somewhat in-between these two, but in some ways quite sperarate. I'm refering to periodicals devoted to business sectors, professions, industries, etc. For instance, the are journals relating specifically to manufacturing computers, or producing specific kinds of wood products, or pursuing acting or dance professionally, or to the business of writing for publication, or professional photography, etc.Joel Russ (talk) 20:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fix the example with volumes

The article says: """For example, the April 2011 publication of a monthly magazine first published in 2002 would be listed as, "Volume 9, Issue 4." """ If 2002 is Volume 1, 2003 is Volume 2, so 2011 would be Volume 10, not 9.
