An estate, in its English and Australian meaning, entails a working agricultural entity. Country houses in the British isles and, to a lesser extent, in Australia (in Scone, for example), are estates in the truest sense of the word. A house with a swimming pool and a tennis court attached is an "estate" only to nouveau riche American estate agents. It is sad that their Australian peers have adopted the term.
