Merge proposal

I think the articles should actually be split, with the Penanggalan information moved over here. --Scottandrewhutchins 15:12, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Support the merger of Pen- into the other. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Penanggalan is significantly different and would created an imbalance in the article due to the greater wealth of information. --14:09, 3 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottandrewhutchins (talkcontribs)
But they are geographic/ethnic variants of an original entity? Could make for a future FA as it could be pretty substantial (?) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:30, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thanks for the pointer on that one. Got a ref as we're working up vampire for FA. I guess we can write a para describing all 3 and link to each there instead.cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:47, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about Penanggalan and Manananggal, but I can make sure that Leyak has different cultural background as Balinese mostly is influenced by Hinduism while the Malaysian/Filipnos are not. I'm sure there are some reliable sources for Leyak, but I'm not an expert for that. — Indon (reply) — 01:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well to be honest I've checked out the description of the Balinese Leyak, and it seems to be the same as that of the Manananggal/Penanggalan. Plus I don't agree with your description of cultural backgrounds: both Malay and Filipino cultures have historically been as equally influenced by Hinduism as Balinese culture was (the Laguna Copperplate Inscription found in Luzon, Philippines confirms this), the only difference is that the Balinese are still Hindu while Malay and Filipino peoples are Muslim/Christian due to newer influences or colonization. • Opppose. They are based in two different countries and are different.--Jondel (talk) 23:16, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Leyak are distinct. We do not, similarly, have one article for Western succubus and vampire. -Kez (talk) 17:17, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Closing merge proposal

I'm going to remove the merge template from this article -- the proposal appears to be dead. -Dayv (talk) 14:26, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
