I am trying to create a more appropriate biography of Dr. Paul Janssen, an important developer of drugs, by expanding the basic article at Wikipedia. Pvosta 16:04, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

post death

Maybe add a bit about how his widow paid the huge inheritance taxes. She sold his collection of precolumbian art to the belgian goverment (instead of paying for it, they deducted said payment from the succession taxes she owed).

It makes him seem more human, to add some of these anecdotes to the page. --134.184.100.135 (talk) 09:50, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note this edit and comment from User:Sminthopsis84 and about this, "The International Who's Who 2004 /Europa Publications" is not a sufficient citation for anything. What is the complete citation? Jytdog (talk) 02:38, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
To be even more specific, that source is available online and does not contain a mention of Paul Janssen. See page 808 in the book online here. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 13:53, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Amateur portrait

Paul Janssen

User:JoeBo82 has drawn a picture of Janssen, their Commons description of it being:

A sketch of Paul Janssen with Fentanyl. I know it isn’t perfect: the eyebrows, chin, and all. However, it still looks better than the statute picture.

JoeBo82 initially removed full-length statue photo from the article and replaced it with this sketch: I returned the statue photo, but cropped.

I don't think this drawing of a jowly square-jawed man with prominent eye bags is recognisable as Janssen, who had none of those facial features. I agree that the statue photograph doesn't have the best angle or resolution, even when cropped, but it is adequate, and looks more like Janssen than this sketch does.

Should the article (and also the thenylfentanyl article, where it also appears) include JoeBo82's sketch? Belbury (talk) 12:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe it should include User:JoeBo82’s sketch. JoeBo82 (talk) 20:45, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think it's recognisable as Jansen, or do you think that any sketch of an oldish man with a receding hairline and a lab coat would be sufficient for the article?
And does the fact that the statue photo has now been cropped (where it was previously an uncropped view of the entire statue and plinth, with the face very small) change your opinion that your sketch is better for the article than the photo of Wilfred Pas's statue? Belbury (talk) 20:51, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the statue is better for the article, but the sketch is based off the one here. [1] JoeBo82 (talk) 00:43, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But you think that your photo is still adding something to the article that the statue close-up doesn't, and that the article needs both images to convey what Janssen looked like? Belbury (talk) 08:55, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
