Origin of Name

"Paramyxoviridae (from Greek para-, beyond, -myxo-, mucus or slime, plus virus, from Latin poison, slime, thus meaning "slime beyond slime"; sometimes illegitimately abbreviated PMV[1])"

But I think the name probably means viruses associated with mucus, i.e respiratory viruses, and the prefix para is to distinguish it from the unrelated orthomyxoviridae. Does anyone have historical sources on this. 71.105.206.168 (talk) 18:16, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are correct. The name was introduced to distinguish it from the unrelated orthomyxoviruses. I'll change the article. Graham Beards (talk) 20:08, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hosts

Humans, vertebrates and birds? Do you mean mammals rather than vertebrates? Humans and birds are vertebrates too. Fences&Windows 22:36, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
