The Philipine Inquirer noted that the mine operator paid the government a penalty of P1.034 billion because of the spill.
It's one of the biggest tailings pond spills ever, in terms of volume, and these are important events.
It was the biggest spill to date in the Phillipines, a country with a large mining sector with a history of spills.
