Correction to Lead

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.

Explanation: Replace lead with update text to remove references to "of america" in society name, it should be just The Optical Society, please see Talk:The_Optical_Society#"The_Optical_Society"_new_legal_name_or_current_trade_name?. Provide updated citations and corrected description of designation to make it clear that it is related to scientific accomplishments in specific disciplines.

Replacement Text with references:
The OSA Fellow,^[1] ^[2] of The Optical Society (OSA), is a membership designation^[3] that denotes distinguished scientific accomplishment in the field of optics and photonics. The bylaws of this society only allow 10% of its membership to be designated as an OSA Fellow. The OSA Fellow requires peer group nomination.

Edit request implemented

The lead sentence was altered as requested.
The lead sentence does not require citations because those are already in the main text.
The issue with those citations in the main body of text is that they are too closely connected to the organization itself. Thus, the Third party maintenance template was appended to the article.

Move article to "Optica Fellow"?

It appears that the name of this article is now the former name of the fellowship. I created a redirect at Optica Fellow, but it seems like the article should be moved there and a redirect placed here instead.W.stanovsky (talk) 17:32, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
