Lists, ahoy!

I'm compiling yet another list of all the open data sources in Canada. While these lists often go out of date, is Wikipedia a good place to have them in order to show which jurisdictions display open data? Brianbancroft (talk) 04:11, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is ok, but you might consider putting the list on github instead, e.g. https://github.com/canada-ca I know the list of open data sources would be of interest to TBS http://open.canada.ca/en/maps/open-data-canada and probably to CODX as well. Funny. It was my disdain of the Opendata map that's pushing myself to aggregate all the sites right now. Specifically for two reasons: The zoom-level restrictions prevents users from selecting sets from adjacent municipalities, and my utter disdain for openlayers. For CODX: Requires a login to view which isn't so open. Also: https://github.com/brianbancroft/OpenCanadaGeoData Brianbancroft (talk) 23:44, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Freedom of Information

To my mind Government 2.0 is about citizen engagement with government including input to decisionmaking. This is a lot more than just freedom of information, which is associated mainly with access to information requests. Rakerman (talk) 21:12, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

move to open data in canada?

Since this is mostly about open data, should it be moved to a different title? Rakerman (talk) 23:15, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review from Louise Yang

* Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?

Everything in this article is relevant to the topic itself, and there’s nothing distracting in my point of view. Main issues influencing the topic are narrated in a chronological order, which makes the timeline very clear. However, it is probably a better order to put the Background section in the front of the page, therefore giving visitors a general idea of the development process of Open Data in Canada. Also, minor typos exist in the article, such as “On March 17, 2011, Stockwell Day, then President” should be changed to “the President”.

* Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?

The claims appear to be unbiased, however the criticism section is still under work, and it is therefore recommended that the editor can add more case studies and state the reasons why some cities are against Open Data in detail.

* Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?

Both the “Municipal” section and the “Criticism” section are a bit underrepresented. Considering the article is still under work, I expect to see more about these two parts in the future.

* Check the citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article?

All the link work well, and they support what the editor wants to express. The sources tend to be variable in case of forms and approaches. Most of them are official websites of federal and provincial governments, but a few of statements are dependent on media reports or posts on social media platforms, and the editor might want to refine these sources and confirm their authenticity.

* Is each fact supported by an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted?

Proper and reliable citations are still needed for some of the facts stated in this article, such as the launch of DataBC and the open data portal of Ontario, but as the editors continue to contribute these should be covered eventually without doubt.

* Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that should be added?

The information provided are up-to-date, and almost all of them are published after year 2010. The “Lists of Sites” section is not clearly stated with a link to each site, and this part of the article should be furtherly clarified. Provincial reaction to the federal decision can be continually added if possible. Also, although it is stated that the history of Open Data in Canada dates back to the 1970s, only major issues and announcements happened in and after year 2010 is mentioned in the article, and the editor might still want to work more on this part.

== There is no information under provincial for Nova Scotia. I would like to add a short paragraph based on the information provided by NS Open Data Portal from https://novascotia.ca/is/feature-story-open-data-portal.asp
