Will o' wisp & fruiting & classification

I removed the anecdotal comments regarding a link to will o'wisp and clouds of spores - a very interesting suggestion but I am unaware of any such reports. Please provide some sort of reference or someone to quote. First of all, is their documentation of the luminosity of the spores in a spore print? I'll have to check - but there should be published info on that.

Next, I removed reference to fruiting only in October & November at Halloween time. That may apply in California or the southern US but it doesn't apply elsewhere in the range. In fact summer fruitings are more frequent elsewhere.

I added futher classification and refined authorities and the situation regarding Lampteromyces japonicus, now an Omphalotus and with its epithet, japonicus, being conserved over guepiniformis. Heliocybe 23:05, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

This needs much more detail

"true, sharp, non-forking gills"

What do any of these words me? What is "true" vs. "false"? What is "sharp" in this context? Non-forking as opposed to? Gills vs what?

I came here to see if I could identify the mushrooms we found, but this description appears to be written by and for mushroom people and doesn't really compare it. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:30, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
