The O'Houlihan Dynasty

please gain more information on the family, currently this is a Stub page

@Aoidh: Please check history. Is there anyway that can be deleted? --FranzSebastianvH (talk) 00:41, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Citation Needed" necessary?

@Guliolopez: You gave good edits on the most part, however, the citation needed on Uallachan Mac Flann is a bit mean. Given that he is has a famous poet (John O'Donovan) writing about him explicitly in a poem (citation 4). Where he refers to him as the progenitor of this family's name and a "rough fettering lord of distinguished valour".

"Uallachan, son of Flann, son of Flannchadh, son of Innrachtach, son of Maelduin, son of Donngal, son of Anmchadh, son of Eoghan Buac. From this Uallachan are sprung the Mac Uallachans a , i. e. the old chieftains of Sil Anmchadha. From Lorcan, son of Muron, son of Flann, son of Innrachtach, is descended Ua Dubhlaich b . From Forbasach, son of Anmchadha, are descended Muinter Lorcain"[1]

" A chief ever-famous, renowned, Is over the plain of the race of Anmchadh, A rough-fettering lord of distinguished valour, 0' venomous- weaponed, h-Uallachan." [2]

"...and the progenitor Uallachan, the last in the line preserved in the Book of Lecan ; though we hope here that you may get access to manuscripts by the evidence of which you can trace the warlike Mac Cuolahans back to Adam !" [3]

(I have finished this pedigree myself as a genealogist)

References

Hi. To your points:
  • "mean". Per WP:VER, WP:BURDEN and the CN template docs, the convention (when another editor raises a related concern) is to address the tag. By adding a reference. Not to describe the editor or their edits as "mean". See also WP:EQ.
  • "a famous poet [..wrote..] about him explicitly in a poem". Members of sections/lists containing "notable people" are generally expected to meet this project's criteria for "notable people". Being the subject of a poem is not, alone, a definitive indicator of notability.
  • "Uallachan, son of Flann [+ other quotes from O'Donovan]". Rather than removing the {{cn}} tag from the article and adding additional refs here (hidden on Talk), please add them to the article itself. Per convention/expectation (as noted above).
  • "myself as a genealogist". I'm not sure why you raise this. But your expertise is neither here nor there. Other readers/editors shouldn't have to be an expert to validate/corroborate the text. Which is why reliable/verifiable refs (ideally inline ones) are a key project tenet.

The O'Houlihan Dynasty not other Houlihan Clans

Please insure if you edit this article in the future, especially with notable individuals, you add the right family. This article is about the O'Houlihan family of Siol Anmchadha.FranzSebastianvH (talk) 18:09, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
