Title change

Hello, Very new to Wiki editing but have been checking this article from time to time. I'm planning on doing a lot of work on this article and will hopefully be able to start getting some much needed references added in the next few days.

Also: How about changing the article to "Nitriding" and redirecting Nitridization. Here's the results from Google Scholar for Nitridization:

[1] ~1220 results

for Nitriding: [2] just shy of 80,000

Would do it myself but I'm still learning and wanted to see if there was any kind of an issue with the change.

Actually, according to Wikipedia policy you are correct in that the title should be Nitriding. So be bold and go for it. Wizard191 (talk) 22:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References will be on their way.

Started dividing things up into sections and am working on history at the moment.

I can back up everything I'm written so far though. Though it wouldn't hurt if someone could mark things that really do need refs. I'd help me get a feeling for what needs to be backed up and what can be considered common knowledge.

Will start adding refs as soon as I've learned and have a bit of time to myself. Nitro Idiot (talk) 12:34, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting the history section! I just want to make two small notes: Only the first word of a section should be capitalized unless the word is a pronoun and the introduction doesn't get a section heading. But like I said, these are very minor notes, and something you'll pick up with time. I'll try and add fact temps to the things that look like they need refs later on. Name

I have been working in the field of Metallurgy since 1968 and have never heard the process referred to as Nitridization, I am sure this is a 'made up' word and should be changed as poor nomenclature normally reveals a lack of basic understanding.

Please no personal attacks. Unfortunately I have to inform you that you are mistaken; please see: [3], [4], and [5]. Wizard191 (talk) 14:56, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up needed

This article needs a lot of work. First the advantages listed for plasma simplistic and sometimes simply wrong. Most of the important disadvantages aren't mentioned.

Btw: Plasma is NOT any quicker than gas nitriding (unless the gas nitriding is done very badly). The case properties for all of the nitriding processes are more or less identicle. That's 'cause nitrogen is nitrigen, it odesn't matter where it came from. Nitro Idiot (talk) 08:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thats not entirely correct, the White layer thickness varies greatly between conventional (Oxygen less) Gas nitriding and Plasma nitriding, only with Added Oxygen it is possible for the gas nitriding to reach the same speed of white layer growth Marc Strämke (talk) 17:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PN in the gas and salt section?

I've removed mention of PN in the salt and gas nitriding sections. I'll restructure this section to give a conparison between the various treatment methods. This may take some time... Nitro Idiot (talk) 09:27, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ferritic nitrocarburizing?

Ferritic nitrocarburizing article says "the process is a modified form of nitriding" but it is not mentioned in this article. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 15:13, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is now. Wizard191 (talk) 18:06, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
