GA Review

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
    The writing has numerous issues.
  • The highway, which as named, goes up Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks is very confusing."Which as named"?
  • The highway takes people up from over 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level to over 4,500 feet (1,372 m) above sea level. is poorly worded.
  • The road increases 450 feet (137 m) in elevation each mile with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Should be "per mile", and 25 mph needs a metric conversion.
  • Route 431 and the Whiteface Highway begins at an intersection with New York State Route 86 in Wilmington. Isn't Route 431 the same road as the Whiteface Highway?
  • Route 431 and the parkway make curves to the east and soon to the northeast as it heads towards the tollbooth at the base. "Make curves" = unencyclopediac language.
  • About a mile into the scenic drive, the highway passes the Union Falls Overlook, a scenic view at 2,700 feet (820 m) high. a mile needs a conversion and better formatting.
  • Viewable from this overlook is Taylor Pond, a pond the Adirondacks. "A pond the Adirondacks"? Also, since we know the route is in the Adirondacks, do we need to know the pond is there, as well?
  • The scenic drive make a hairpin turn just before 3,700 feet (1,100 m), and come to another scenic view, this time, showing parts of Lake Placid and the Olympic Village. Missing plurals.
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Uh...the route description goes from NY 86–the summit of Whiteface, while the major intersections chart does exactly the opposite. Make up your mind! :P
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  3. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  4. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  5. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  6. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

A decent article you got yourself, but there are several issues that need to be addressed. For now, I put the article on-hold. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:38, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
