Another subspecies?

The Japanese version of this page [[1]] has Mentha arvensis var. piperascens and says this is referred to as Japanese peppermint. Wakablogger2 (talk) 05:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Range needs clarification

The beginning paragraph states "Mentha arvensis ... is a species of mint with a circumboreal distribution. It is native to the temperate regions of Europe and western and central Asia, east to the Himalaya and eastern Siberia, and North America".

As I understand it, the North American part of its range (and at least some of the east Asian part, too, I believe) only applies if Mentha canadensis is considered part of the species, but further down it says "The related species Mentha canadensis is also included in M. arvensis by some authors". It looks to me like the statement in the beginning paragraph is based on different assumptions than the statement further down. Chuck Entz (talk) 03:41, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Methyl acetate or menthyl acetate

Methyl acetate listed in the chemical composition of the oil from field mint is probably a typo and should be menthyl acetate. The former is a derivative of methanol, and the latter is a derivative of menthol also occurring in the oil's composition.
