Progressive rifling
Progressive rifling is rifling that starts at a gentle twist rate, and increases as you travel towards the muzzle. The intent is to more gently impart the full spin rate onto the projectile, rather than the abrupt initiation of a usual rifle. This is supposed to increase accuracy. I'm not sure exactly what "the grooves increased in diameter from breech to muzzle", but that sounds a lot more like a squeeze bore to me, which squeezes the bullet tighter as the pressure rises. If nothing else, I can imagine a bore that starts out unrifled, but the rifling slowly grows deeper as you travel towards the muzzle, which would be something like real progressive rifling. However, that doesn't seems to match what the text says; "the grooves reduced in diameter" ought to mean that the bore gets smaller, or that the lands are vanishing. Grooves are the cuts in the bore; lands are the part that sticks out. If the "grooves" reduce in diameter while the lands stay the same, then the rifling would becoming shallower as you near the muzzle, which makes no sense.
And BTW, unless the cartridge was designed and patented by the designer, who then gave the military permission to use his cartridge, it's incorrect to call it a "proprietary" cartridge. .45Colt 02:29, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
What is 13.78 mm "LAK"?
Is there any information on that? Could it be the 14x33 Wanzl cartridge? Sharps drobovik (talk) 11:36, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
