Expansion needed

This short article does not mention the tradition that the before the proposal the groom asks the father of the bride for permission. Can someone please elaborate on that. I'd love to hear that from different cultures as well!! THANKS -- Michael Janich 03:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm about to add one fact about British culture so I will add it for you. Its rather funny that more hasnt been added there must be hundreds of interesting rituals from different cultures! Be bold everybody! --Camaeron (talk) 13:41, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is actually not tradition to ask the brides Father before marriage in the UK. This is a new idea, which has developed from a misreading of the classics. If you read classic literature or historical manners guides carefully you will find that this practice is not at all traditional. Tradition is in fact that the man proposes to his future wife. Having secured her blessing to do so, he then approaches her father to ask for her hand in marriage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.70.60.84 (talk) 13:09, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know what the average time is for someone to reply to a proposal? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.8.133.132 (talk) 21:23, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Slovakia it is common to let the woman find the engagement ring in her coffee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.19.10.20 (talk) 11:58, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment in article itself

The following comment was pasted in the article, but I think it belongs here:

<!----------------------------------------------- ******TO SERIOUS RESEARCHERS******* May I suggest to the encyclopedia of knowledge that the ways people "propose marriage" are rather silly and frivolous, and the "February 29" idea is based on fantasy. Marriage is a serious, lifetime commitment and cannot afford such frivolity. ------------------------------------------------>

Women proposing

I think the line of women proposing as being "still very rare" in Western culture is a bit POV. It's not so rare in this day. EDIT: Forgot my tildes. 98.220.211.83 (talk) 03:41, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

These JEWELS belong to HER MAJESTY, but Father de Klerk stole them from HER

He sets up and steals from everyone. He also uses militia to get rid of people he feels is needed for his wealth or power. The world is completely corrupt because of this ex militant. 41.13.254.186 (talk) 23:00, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
