Global Warming

I think we should include a section on how the general warming of the palnet's oceans are helping add to the amount of Sea SnotSastaley (talk) 18:07, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

i agree Matt.Blanch (talk) 00:05, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it really called that?

Is the substance this article is about *really* called sea snot? By professional scientists, speaking or writing in a professional capacity? I don't know, but have my doubts about it. Mightn't they be more likely to say "marine mucilage"? Shouldn't this article therefore be titled similarly?

I wonder if the title of the article was changed as a joke, or as vandalism, and whether it should be changed to "Marine mucilage" - and "sea snot" changed to "marine mucilage" throughout the article - although "sea snot" could be mentioned as a colloquial usage if it can in fact be shown that scientists, or people generally, do frequently use "sea snot" informally. But, aside from that, I would expect an encyclopaedia to normally use the formal term for anything, both as a title and in the body of the text. M.J.E. (talk) 17:21, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Sea Saliva" has also been used, in the article and in a cited external link.
I absolutely agree with "M.J.E." above,
that the current title is discreditable to Wikipedia,
and I thus support that user's suggestion re renaming this article.

Boldly did it as I guess uncontentious Chidgk1 (talk) 10:19, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any sourcing to support this change? I'm concerned that "marine mucilage" is just made-up by editors. Looking at the reference section of the page, all the sources seem to use the term "sea snot". Perhaps the system at WP:RM should have been used, with more eyes on the rename than just a few editors here. Without a better explanation of this change, I intend to go to RM and request that the move be undone. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:54, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, maybe I spoke too soon. Google Scholar searches show 53 results for "sea snot", and 376 results for "marine mucilage". Sorry. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:07, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The use of scientific organism names distracted me and confused me a little bit. I understand they are necessary, but if they have common names, maybe those could be included too. The information is up to date, with information about increased sea snot in 2021. While the issue does pertain mostly to the mediterranean, it would be interesting to see how this issue is affecting the United States. I believe the article could further describe specific countermeasures to stop the increasing sea snot. Also, recent information on protests, legislation, or other measures that have been taken to stop the spread of sea snot could be added if they exist. Two of them

There is another page on marine mucilage here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Mucilage I think either one should be deleted or they should be merged. 82.3.200.164 (talk) 10:45, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
