Edit Explanation

The sites which brought up Mankatha's 500 crore collection were Behindwoods and Indiaglitz. If they both were reliable, then Moviecrow is reliable too. A fake twitter account of Sun Pictures released the information and sites like Indiaglitz and Behindwoods supported it, so it was cited on wiki, this is a clear case of inflating numbers: http://www.moviecrow.com/News/481/7-easy-steps-to-creating-box-office-numbers

Now look at this reference where Moviecrow themselves confirm Mankatha grossed 80 crore worldwide in 30 days: http://www.moviecrow.com/News/116/bo-infograph-sept-30---oct-3 Therefore, Mankatha's worldwide gross could be anywhere between 800 and 1000 crore, but not more than that

The film grossed 25.2 cr nett from Tamil Nadu in its five day weekend. (See BO section). Even Singam II which earned 50 crore worldwide in 3 days and Kaththi which earned 70 crore worldwide in 5 days has not done a business of 130 cr worldwide. Check this page from Andhra Box Office to believe: http://andhraboxoffice.com/info.aspx?id=672&cid=6&fid=872

According to Moviecrow, after 30 days, the film's business was pretty much finished.

I'm sure that this is enough proof to go with. This 500 crore number has not been stable on Wikipedia. It has been removed many times and now it is fair enough to remove it permanently. Unfortunately, there is no reliable source for the film's final gross. Since the budget uses the same source, that will have to be removed too. A reliable source for budget will be added later.

WIKIPEDIA - There is so much false information on Mankatha Box office. How can a film gain 25.2 crores in 370 screens (only less 100 shows in chennai circle) please do not compare this with endhiran...it was screen more than 1000 screens...

Media you are so biased when writing about Ajith kumar...I am close to radaan networks...they tell a different story when it comes to collections...you are reporting a false claimed by free websites like india glitz and so on....

Is Mankatha really the title spelling?

Poster on the official website says "Mangatha." EelamStyleZ (talk) 05:46, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, seems it's Mankatha indeed. There hasn't been released a single official poster yet, all the posters are fan-made, including the one on this site. So as usual, let's wait! Johannes003 (talk) 17:44, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah the posters seem fan made alright. Sort of knew it when I saw the picture of Nagarjuna on the bottom. :P EelamStyleZ (talk) 05:42, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mankatha a rip-off

Rohit Ramachandran of nowrunning.com rated the film 2/5 stating that "Mankatha doesn't stand on independent merit. It rests on the fanboy's identity crisis."[1]

Box office dispute

There have been many edits over the past few days proposing that the current number for box office gross is incorrect. The article currently cited (http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news-1/dec-11-04/mankatha-ajith-23-12-11.html) says the film grossed 130 crores, and I first undid an edit by a user who suggested it was actually 80 crores but they did not change the citation. Just recently someone added this website as a citation for the film only grossing 64.5 crores: http://www.moviecrow.com/News/481/7-easy-steps-to-creating-box-office-numbers. While I see the article's point, it does not say the correct number. The article cited for the film's budget (#5: http://ibnlive.in.com/news/7am-arivu-velayutham-raone-souths-big-diwali/196042-8-66.html) contradictorily suggests the gross is 80 crores. I don't know what is correct so I just cited the current one with {{vc}}.
Jonadin93 (talk) 07:30, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If we add the 130 crore figure,([1]) it should be specifically stated that the information was given by the distributors. But regarding the IBN live source, it says that the film "reportedly" raked in 80 crores without explaining if it was the gross or the nett figure. The 130 figure can be mentioned in the infobox and the lead, with an attribution as Sun Pictures is known to provide fake reports of their films. X.One SOS 07:58, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

sun pictures dnt hav a twitter account,,,,130 crores mentioned as Box office collection is fake. This was also explained in one of the websites : http://www.moviecrow.com/News/481/7-easy-steps-to-creating-box-office-numbers

No, moviecrow is not a reliable source and the IBN live source says "collecting around Rs.50 crore at the box office", which means that it is the distributor's share. 130 crore is the collection given by the distributors and we have to abide by the policy of verifiability. X.One SOS 12:43, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and remember that the budget of the film was around 40 crore, and marketing costs went upto 20 crore. So, 60c was spent by Cloud Nine movies and it must have been brought by Sun pictures at a even higher price. So, if it made only 50c, then naturally it is a loss. Clear? Box office collection

ThankS FOR YOUR REPLY

Please remove the box office collection as 130 crores as Mankatha has managed to collect only 50 crores at BO : source : http://ibnlive.in.com/news/2011-a-bleak-streak-for-tamil-film-industry/215343-8-68.html SINCE THERE ARE NO RELIABLE SOURCE ABOUT TOTAL COLLECTIONS IT CAN BE REMOVED TILL WE GET A CONFIRMED REPORT

Kamalakannan1985 (talk) 17:55, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See above. 50 crore is the distributor's share, not gross. 130c is the figure taken from Behindwoods and Indiaglitz, which are reliable sources. X.One SOS 12:45, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
50 crore is a nett amount I guess?? -- Karthik Nadar 14:04, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
NO. 50c is the distributor's revenue. They are all different, in a way. Gross>Nett>D.revenue. Gross is the money obtained through ticket sales. Nett is Gross - money which goes to the Income tax department. D.revenue is Nett-Money retained by theaters. Clear enough? X.One SOS 16:26, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ThankS FOR YOUR REPLY again

YOur explanation about nett and gross amounts are fair enough. Kindly explain me this. Both the references attached(Behindwoods and Indiaglitz) have the news as "Sun TV had officially announced the earnings" . Was it in sun pictures website? I can tell you that it was announced in the twitter account but that tweet is now no longer available now. Many ppl started asking the source for claiming that amount. Then there was a reply tweet saying " I've no job to make you ppl fool here, First of all get that into your mind. Thank you :)" which is still available. Here is the whole point: official announcement is referring only to a tweet and the proof is not available now. This makes the news totally unreliable. You can contact him in twitter and get a confirmation. Behindwoods and Indiaglitz can make mistakes by believing false reports but not THE Wikipedia..!

Kamalakannan1985 (talk) 17:55, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many things happening on Sun TV do not get posted on the website. Again, Wikipedia is verifiability, NOT the truth. The only sources which say that the film grossed XxX are Behindwoods and Indiaglitz. The two IBN live sources mentioned above, do not say anything about gross at all, and use different words to explain their figures. I know its impossible for an Ajith film to cross 100c, but if I had a contradicting source, I would change it, as I'm quite sure all major editors here will agree on Sun Pictures's corrupted stance. They purposely inflated Enthiran's collection to 400c and now Mankatha's to 130c. Its definitely far-fetched by all means. The reliability of Behindwoods and Indiaglitz have been discussed, and Indiaglitz is NOT a reliable source for Mankatha, for stating a way-off figure, as it is the media-partner of the film. That makes it a primary source, per WP:PSTS. Behindwoods is better, and is definitely reliable, as long as contradicting sources do not directly oppose its findings. If you can find one, please post it. Hope this helps. X.One SOS 08:40, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
