- reading the beginning of this it says Mangan is a Irish name.
- I first read it was a name/word of German origin.
- used as a surname it meant horse groomer, but it may have also stood for horse breeder and horse trainer....
- you say it is a Irish name tell me how old is it there?
- also: how did it end up as a town name in Afghanistan?
- also how did it end up as a town name in India?
- yet you say it is Irish!?!?

- Manganese#History says the etymology of that element is unclear, but it provides some other sources which could also explain some of those other uses. The name consists of two syllables with common consonant sounds, so it's not surprising that the word would pop up in multiple unrelated languages. Incidentally, in German Mangan is the name of Manganese. --BDD (talk) 20:53, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
