Added Template

I've added a template for Lupe Fiasco, but I don't know how to create one. Would someone else who knows how to create one please do so? I can provide a complete tracklisting, including singles, vinyls, and mixtapes. Thank You. Kick Push

Now is Lupe's song spelled "Kick Push" or "Kick, Push" ?

It's "Kick, Push" (and there is also a song called "Kick, Push II"). I have the album in front of me, although on the back of the album the song titles are in all caps. Boondock 02:03, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Praise from Chicago LGBT Community? (needs citation)

The article says that "Lupe is praised in the Chicago gay and lesbian community mainly due to his song "Hurt Me Soul" where he reveals an ex-boyfriend beat him." Is there any citation for this? It seems very odd to me, because the lyrics in that song give the definite impression that he isn't talking about himself (see http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/2147435533/Lupe_Fiasco/Hurt_Me_Soul). The lyrics actually say "My mom can't feed me, my boyfriend beats me / I have sex for money, the hood don't love me." I searched on Google for praise of Lupe from the gay community but found nothing. There's an artice in the new Advocate magazine quoting Lupe's album. Even if it's not what he intended, the statement is a fact.

Just wanted tack on an additional note; if you're readin some of the newest stuff from a magazine with notable information you might wanna take care of citing this yourself - I'm too lazy to check if Advocate lets non-subscribers read their stuff, but you being one you'd definitely be able to take care of sourcing the info as a printed article or when it's put online.--Mr Bucket 04:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Anyone who truly knows Lupe Fiasco knows that most of his songs are stories about other people. In fact, he almost never talks about himself except in maybe 3 songs. And any educated person will tell you that Hurt Me Soul is about society in general. If you think its about him, then why dont we also start a conspiracy on him being a terrorist cause of his song "american terrorist?" It just doesnt make sense. People, if you want to know if there is any truth about being mentioned in Advocate, you have to locate a library in a gay community and there will be a few back copies. There was a website that I found that said he had an interview in August in Advocate. So if some folks want to find out if what was mentioned was praise, you can look at one of the two Advocate magazines. Either that or e-mail Fiasco's MySpace account or his publicist's e-mail.

Style

Some comment should be made about his unique Emcee style. He tends to rhyme within rhymes, similar to Nas in his early days. Also, his topics are different from the typical club/crunk music of our time. He has a bit more potent subject matter. He also seems to love to use metaphors and metonymy.(case in point, Never Lies aka The Instrumental)

please. internal rhymes? metaphor? those are some of the most BASIC devices used by rappers. his subject matter is hardly unique (the fact that he's not like a crunk rapper doesn't make him unique, just in a different branch of hip-hop. by that logic, lil' scrappy has unique subject matter since "conscious hip-hop" doesnt talk about busting people's heads.) every halfway decent rapper (and tons of bad ones too) uses internal rhymes.

Appearances

The listing of appereances isn't necessary IMO. Unless it is in a place you wouldn't expect a emcee to be, then i don't think its noteworthy. There's no reason to start listing his shows. --Jaysscholar 13:02, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

If you need specific information e-mail his MySpace account from your MySpace account or e-mail his publicist. 1/15 is obviously his own label. It also would depend on what information you're interested in.

Reebok

huge following of what?

"Lupe has been pushed to the forefront of "rap" and now has a huge following of backpackers." This statement about his fan following seems to be conjecture at best, and doesn't seem to conform to neutral POV. If it is to remain in the article, it needs some kind of citation.

No Emcee Chicago

Wrong name of the second album. In the Outro of the album he states the second album will be "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool". AIght, now erase that shit.

Lupe has no second album distribution deal with Atlantic. Until he has a deal, he has no second album.

What happened to the list of mixtapes?

No problem. Well, some of them are (at least in my opinion) undoubtably official (being made, released, and promoted openly by Lupe himself, most noticebly the 1st & 15th parts 1 - 3, and the 2K7 Mixtape Tapes), but I admit the others don't have solid enough proof of validity for Wikipedia (they're pretty strict, understandably). Maybe Lupe will give a list of his Mixtape Discography, or even bless us with a Wikipedia post.
And I'd be interested in which ones you own, I'd like to see what the actual CDs themselves look like (not the artwork/sticker), as I haven't bought any yet. And I also agree with Sartaj's arguement about removing the part about his conversion to the protestant religion, for the same reasons as Sartaj posted. There is NO citation on Lupe's Conversion

Wikipedia is not a place for conspiracies. The fact that he converted to Protestantism has no citation whatsoever. So i really don't know where the person who wrote it got the idea from. And after an extensive search on gooogle, i have yet to find even one source other thank wikipedia that references his conversion to protestantism. Till it has proper citation from a reputable source, I suggest removing this as it has potential to cause way too much controversy. This error is a huge error, especially since Lupe is adored in the Muslim community. so such an allegation really needs sources before being put on wikipedia. Swearing?

Yes, his album does contain unedited swearing, and his songs come with an "explicit" tag, at least when downloaded from iTunes.

Despite the prolific swearing at some points, he does say "forgive me for my favorite word for her and her's alike/..." after saying "bitch" in the song "Hurt Me Soul", maybe implying that he feels that cursing is a necessary evil for his medium of choice: ".../but i learned it from a song I heard and sorta liked"

This is a reference to Too $hort whose self-proclaimed favorite word is "bitch" (i.e. in "Blow The Whistle" he rhymes: "What's my favorite word? (Bitch!)") It seems that most of his swearing isn't coming directly from him.

Lead in

Is it really necessary to include his religious affiliation in the opening sentence? If you look at musicians who were promoted to featured articles like Weird Al Yankovic & Mariah Carey, none of them say "X is a Scientologist singer..." or "X is a Christian singer..." or whatever their beliefs may be. Same thing with rappers who were promoted to good article status like The Game and 2pac. Afterall, Lupe is most notable for being an artist rather than being of a certain belief system. It's important to him personally, which is why it belongs in the relevant 'Personal life' section. I also removed 'African' based on the good articles above. Spellcast 13:57, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Although Lupe is Muslim and he does refer to it a lot, his music is not focused on religion, meaning his religion doesn't really have to be put at the top. Sartaj 20:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Another overgiddy article about a "backpack" rapper

I notice it says he is a hero to nerds and the middle class. What about when he used to be your regular crack rapper? There seems to be no mention of it.

There should be an associated acts section for Lupe like there is for other rappers. The names that come to mind right now would be Kanye, Pharrell, Gemini, and maybe Jay-Z?

FNF Radio..

Hey i think that line about fnf radio being scheduled to air should be removed cuz its not airing anymore and hasnt been for a year now....They are in the process of trying to bring fnf radio back but things are uncertain yet...
