Talk:Lone Mountain, San Francisco

Proposed Deletion

Why I proposed deletion:

  • There's no citation indicating that this neighborhood is recognition by any locals or officials.
  • "USF/Panhandle" is a well recognized neighborhood name covering very similar territory.
  • "Western Addition" is the traditional neighborhood name covering a larger territory.

Alternative to deletion:

  • Rename to "USF Neighborhood, San Francisco" and cite sources for that name.
  • It's certainly debatable that this area isn't a distinct neighborhood of it's own, in which case deletion is more appropriate.

Beg to differ

I live here, or hereabouts, and sometimes call my neighborhood "Lone Mountain" myself just to piss off the yuppies who thought they were investing in a home in something the realtors convinced them is called "NoPa". Lone Mountain is an older name for this neighborhood, not so much in use anymore, but it's legit, definitely real and once widely used. Personally, I feel like "Lone Mountain" most appropriately captures the mystery and romance of life on the slopes of our windswept hill, as if you might turn any corner and stumble into a John Ford western, if John Ford made westerns about vapid fashion-obsessed hipsters and status-conscious yuppies. "USF/Pandhandle" is kind of a vernacular, along the lines of calling the Financial District "downtown", I'm not sure you'll find a good source giving that name. "Western Addition" is a large area of the city encompassing a whole slew of neighborhoods including this one, the Fillmore, Hayes Valley, Haight Ashbury, parts of Civic Center, etc. Most realtors call this "North Of Panhandle" nowadays. And, to be completist, if you hit up the Zoning Board's website, there are official maps that show this entire area as part of Haight Ashbury, from Stanyan clear on down to Divisadero. Which, by the way, is the hamlet of Popeye's Gulch. Mike Qtips (talk) 18:07, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
