Talk:Lists of indigenous peoples of Russia

There is an online book called The Red Book of the Peoples of the Russian Empire that contains a much longer list (and a lot of detail) about indigenous and minority groups in Russia. Some of these might be appropriate to add to this list. I won't do this myself though because I'm no expert and would probably get it wrong.

I don't know what the provenance or copyright status of the original text is.

"lists", eh?

How about moving this page to "Lists of indigenous peoples of Russia"? --24.6.228.145 (talk) 20:55, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation

I'd like to note that the term indigenous is used in this article and its title as a common noun – i.e., it does not denote a specific ethnicity but simply indicates all those peoples that inhabited the territory for millennia.

Compare: American Natives (proper noun denoting a distinct group) vs A native of New York (common noun). She was an Indigenous woman (proper noun) vs indigenous tribes of Eastern Europe (common noun).

Unlike proper nouns, common nouns are not normally capitalised on Wikipedia. — kashmīrī TALK 13:02, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
