correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this artical the same as Video game adaptation (anime), but contain different items. If thats the case, shouldn't we merge them??--ZeWrestler 16:28, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't think this article should exist at all, it doesn't make sense to me. We should have one article listing anime based on games (which we already have two of @_@) and a separate article listing games based on anime. - Commander Nemet 18:26, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea to me. This page has been needing an overhaul since its start, if I knew the other article existed I would've put effort into moving it over instead of adding more to this one. Also, some of the titles on this page may not even belong here, as this page originally also included games with art styles Western slang would commonly call "anime". Some of the ones in the list currently were anime first, others games first, others I am unfamiliar with. 06 November 2005 (Not a registered user)

Those two articles talk about the very same thing. 75.32.32.165 18:38, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Merge. Yup. Definitely the exact same thing. KyuuA4 06:23, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

These articles should NOT be merged, IMO. Having a listing of both games based on anime and anime based on games serves no purpose. It doesn't tell anything other than that there is both a game and an anime/manga. Maintaining seperate lists is what gives people actual information, that one or the other came first. If we're going to merge the lists, there shouldn't be a list at all. Soul Slayer (talk) 17:04, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

List focus

The focus of this list is too obtuse. Under the current terms any game with a remote anime/manga connection qualifies. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 07:27, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

The Legend of Zelda

What the heck are The Legend of Zelda titles doing on here? They're not based on manga or anime at all. Some of them have had manga adpations, true, but the games came first.

Read this from the top of the page carefully:

Also known as anime-based games, this is a list of computer and video games that are based on anime or manga, or from which anime or manga have been made. This does not contain dojinshi or hentai games.

  • Ummm.. Actually, there was a anime that came out after the VERY first or second game. I mean the games on regular Nintendo so they are based on an anime.
The only Legend of Zelda animation that I'm aware of was released in the United States back over a decade ago. It isn't anime. Unless you can produce documentation on the existence of a LoZ anime, it should be removed from the list. Edit: Ok, looks like there is indeed a LoZ manga, so nevermind. Come on

I used to maintain the list of anime video games on Usenet for many years. This list is very, very, incomplete--so incomplete it isn't worth keeping. (There are probably around ten Macross games alone, and dozens of Gundam and Super Robot Wars games, none of which are listed here.) I don't think Wikipedia is supposed to be for lists anyway, despite the prevalence of them. Ken Arromdee 18:01, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, rather than making disparaging remarks, how about jumping in and helping out? Perhaps you could start by mixing in your list of titles so this list is more complete? (^_^) --日本穣 Nihonjoe 19:44, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
The list we have here is so bad that any attempt to fix it would basically involve rewriting the entire article from scratch. And the task is incredibly massive. My own list contains 899 titles despite being smaller in scope (games that started as games and became anime later are only mentioned briefly) and I had to give it up because it was impossible to maintain and prone to errors and missing information. And that was five years ago. This isn't something I can just "help out" with.
If anyone wants to take a try the old list is at http://www.faqs.org/faqs/games/anime-faq/ but even then, adding the games in that list to this list will *not* produce anything close to a complete list.
Incidentally that list includes 17 Macross games, 92 Gundam games, and 57 Super Robot Wars related games. It also contains 30 Dragonball games in contrast to this list's four (all of which weren't even out when I was doing the original list.)
This list also rather dubiously includes "similarly themed" games, which is just an excuse for not doing research since almost any game from Japan that turns out not to really be anime based can be placed in the list on the grounds that it has a "similar theme". Ken Arromdee 02:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I started adding them in, and will continue until I get through your list. Thanks for the pointer. (^_^) --日本穣 Nihonjoe 20:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
If you're going to add them in, despite the incompleteness and errors, we need to figure out what to do with the "similarly themed" games. My list doesn't include those, because including those would turn the whole thing into a list of 90% of the games in Japan. So you'll end up with hundreds of anime games and a couple dozen "similarly themed" games from the original Wikipedia list. Ken Arromdee 20:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Is this the "Games made into anime" section? Or do you mean something else? --日本穣 Nihonjoe 21:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I mean something else. The list on Wikipedia says that "this is a list of games that are based on anime or manga, or are similarly themed".
There are a couple of games on the list (Castlevania, for instance) whose only justification for being there is that they're similarly themed. If we think that "similarly themed" actually belongs on the list, then not only do we have to add all anime games, we have to add almost all Japanese games, which is ridiculous. Ken Arromdee 05:03, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, my list includes manga, while this one doesn't, so you'll have to filter out the manga-only games (or change this to 'List of anime and manga games'). Ken Arromdee 20:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Title has been fixed. It makes more sense for it to be this title (List of games based on anime and manga), anyway, given the huge crossover between anime and manga. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 21:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Incomplete lists and inconsistent formatting

Ok, as the above comment says, many games are missing. This is to be expected, and will gradually improve as people add them. however, what annoys me is that the format is not consistent. Some games have a citation under them with publishing info and such, most do not. Some of them note what platform they were released on/have migrated to, all of them should. Also, dates and genre should be listed for all of them, as some of these games have spanned several generations of hardware, or at least have a great many sequels. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.213.193.10 (talkcontribs) .

The list is undergoing a change at the moment, with another list created by Ken Arromdee (see section above) being merged into this one. This process has only just started and will take a little bit of time. --日本穣 Nihonjoe 23:51, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

There are plenty of adult games listed even though the article text plainly says they are not included. Many of them started off adult and got anime adaptations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.237.204.10 (talk) 23:14, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually the luck star game is a doujin game I think.--BobtheVila (talk) 07:31, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Ragnarok

Why's Ragnarok on there? The game came first.

I'm wondering the same for several of the games on the list, most of the ones in the R section link directly to the anime page instead of the game. Jon Fawkes 04:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Because the description says "or from which anime or manga have been made". Yes, it is incorrect but to fix it we need to retitle or split the page. See below Jyuichi 02:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Cleanup?

Does this article still need cleanup? Unless I missed something, it seems fairly well-formatted and consistent as of right now. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 16:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
