Talk:List of open-source software for mathematics

A lot of work for little purpose

A few people are putting a lot of work in to this page which almost surely will be either deleted or cut down considerably.

  • All the material describing open source and its purported advantages does not belong here, and undoubtedly has been properly covered elsewhere.
  • The page Mathematical software contains links to Wikipedia lists of computer algebra systems, statistical packages, etc.
  • There is a Category: Free mathematics software that encompasses most of the packages on this page.

So the value-added in this page would be:

  • Simply to enumerate which packages are open source
  • Perhaps add new information on each package

My suggestion is to put all that effort into updating the individual pages for the packages themselves. Then, perhaps, convert this page into a list of links.

No Table of Contents

If this is going to be a long list that has categories, descriptions, etc. it should really have a Contents. Wikispherion (talk) 21:35, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The TOC renders on the right-hand side, it seems. Maybe you can play with __TOC__ to see if that repositions the TOC? -- M.boli (talk) 00:16, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
