More Information about Asian Trails

Could someone please include more information about trails in Asia, especially the mountain trails in Nepal (Like the 10 day trek to Everest base camp) and in india.

Thanks, helmsdeep 10:00, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Characteristics required for inclusion

How long should trails be for inclusion in this page?

Are treks to mountain summits allowed, if so, how technical can they be before they are considered mountaineering instead?

Is there another article for just general treks?

I think a guideline would be a good idea here... --Ozhiker 18:07, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm with Oz, a 'hike' can be 2000 miles of bushwacking, but is it a 'trail'? The wiki definition should be a start for inclusion. Length is subjective to localized hiking culture, a 50 mile US trail might not be seen as long distance, yet 150 Km trail in the UK is seen as long distance (obviously any arbitrary length is a start though) Omar (talk) 13:54, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to editing, but agree this page needs serious work. For example, the very first trail on the list, in Argentina, isn't a trail at all but a National Park. I propose 100 miles as the length for a "long-distance footpath," but we could also use 100 kilometers. Or vary the length from miles to km based on what a country primarily uses. casting-off 23 April 2013 —Preceding undated comment added 19:43, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

add Caminos de Santiago to list under France and Spain?

I see that Camino de Santiago has been added but after doing some research find that there's no specific footpath, and then individual sub-trails may need to be added in order to have their mileage tallied. Anyone have an opinion? I believe that all trails listed on this page should have mileage listed in order to be considered "long distance." Casting-off (talk) 19:58, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Out of Eden

Does the Out of Eden walk count, http://www.outofedenwalk.com/media/2013/03/the-greatest-walk/, or will it be a one off? QuentinUK (talk) 17:21, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed criteria

I was editing the section on trails in the US, and noticed that we don't have any real criteria for what should be on this list. There are quite a few long-distance trails in the United States but in general I have tried to include trails that are mostly complete, over 100 miles long, and have at least a few through-hikers yearly (though there is little data available on this). What else should we look at? Ungulates (talk) 12:30, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
