David Bowie

David Bowie was most likely, as he said in a 1980s interview with rolling stone, a "closet heterosexual". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.240.98 (talk) 15:57, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problematic list

This list has so many problems when it comes to people before the 18th century. There is a caveat in the introduction: "most definitions include a psychological component (such as the direction of an individual's erotic desire) and/or a behavioural component (which focuses on the sex of the individual's sexual partner/s). Some prefer to simply follow an individual's self-definition or identity." However, most editors doesn't seem to take this into consideration, but finding - a more or less reliable - source that claims that someone was homosexual adds his or her name to the list.

Take Jacopo Bonfadio. In the list it is claimed that he was "executed due to his homosexuality." But the source says: "Italian Humanist and Historian Jacopo Bonfadio Convicted of Sodomy and Beheaded." That is something else. The Wikipedia article about him claims that he had angered a number of important people. "They proceeded to accuse him of sodomy, for which he was arrested, tried, and condemned to death." " The minutes of his trial have been lost."

Sodomy is generally anal or oral sex between people or sexual activity between a person and a non-human animal (bestiality), but it may also mean any non-procreative sexual activity.

  1. He wasn't executed because he had a certain sexual orientation, but because he was convicted of having committed an act of sodomy.
  2. We do not know what this act consisted of.
  3. We do not know if he was framed or not.

In addition one might add, that the source is not reliable: Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy..
