On the relevance of Canadian native dry meats...

I removed all references to Canadian native dry meats and other ridiculous elements from the list given:

  • the number of comments indicating how ridiculous the list was
  • its lack of international relevance
  • its lack of local relevance
  • the fact that I checked several elements and found out that at least some did not correspond to the original reference (dried beaver meat: 23 g of protein per 100g not 53 g).

The Canadian file is really good though so I listed some searches from that source. Rdavout (talk) 02:23, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the items in the list are not very useful for the general public. On the list are a variety of meats that I don't think most people have even heard of;

Bearded seal game meat, air-dried, Spirulina alga dried, Inconnu, smoked, dried

I agree entirely. I am never going to eat moose or polar bear, not least because I'm on the wrong continent. Could common foods be included, like chicken, lamb, different cheeses - cheddar, wensleydale, brie, camembert, edam etc. Also it would be useful to see the 'very different' list of proteins available to humans.81.159.217.155 (talk) 01:51, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On numbers without units

Particularly on the statement: "For the sake of clarity, these units have been systematically removed in the following."

Comparing "clarity" of versions of articles in an article seems to provide little value. For the numbers at hand it would be useful to use weight %

What about nuts?

I believe nuts are a major source of protein. They are not mentioned in this article. Please can somebody add a section on nuts?

Nutritional disservice

A useful list would be calories from protein divided by total calories from all constituents. This would factor out water and fiber, where water is neutral, and fiber (for most people) is actually beneficial, regardless of your macronutrient target.

Basically, any serious study of this list in its present form is doing active harm to your comprehension of food nutrition by irredeemably getting the water and fiber with whatever you profess to care about.

From a principled perspective, one would almost nominate this page in its present form for outright deletion, though that's not the kind of thing Wikipedia actually is.

But we could at least bridge the gap by including a column on protein caloric ratio. For anyone who is counting calories, and treating caloric intake as a fixed ceiling, this is the right thing to do all the way down. Of course, that's not the best perspective, either, but at least it's defensible, unlike what we now have here (regardless of whether we just aped what's already out there in the vast, corrupted galaxy of nutritional disservice). — MaxEnt 16:11, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am interested in % calories of protein vs total calories. This eliminates the variation due to water content.
