Problems with this article

There are some major definitional issues in its content.

  1. All-American Roads are a type of National Scenic Byway. They are parts of the same program.
Here, it's treated as a separate program, when it is not. All-American Road status means a National Scenic Byway meets two of the intrinsic quality criteria instead of just one. There are some additional corridor management plan requirements for an All-American Road over that of a National Scenic Byway.
The signage is the same, signifying they're part of the same program.
For some reason, this article doesn't recognize that the Trail Ridge Road/Beaver Meadow National Scenic Byway is a National Scenic Byway, which it must also be, by definition, if it has All-American Road status.
  2. The article seems to assume or imply that to have a federal designation a byway must also enjoy a state-level designation.
This is demonstrably untrue, as Michigan has three National Forest Scenic Byways that are not in the Pure Michigan Byway program. Of those three, one is also a National Scenic Byway. Most of the BLM Back Country Byways are not listed in the appropriate state byway programs.
While it is common that a National Scenic Byway be a state byway, it is not required. Currently, a roadway may be nominated by an Indian tribe or the National Park Service for listing as a National Scenic Byway, not just a state department of transportation.
  3. If the scope of this article is to list byways in Colorado with designations from federal agencies, why are we listing lengths of byways in adjacent states?
  4. Since the scope, based on the title of the article, only includes byways with a federal designation, I removed the section about state byways that lack such a designation from a federal agency.

These issues can be overcome through simple editing, which is why I mention them here. It may be better, for other reasons, to split these listings apart into separate Imzadi 1979  03:30, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
