Talk:List of casinos in Ohio

CSD Reason

  • this list is a WP:N, based on a purely speculative interview article from a nonWP:RS source
  • info violates WP:SPECULATION - numerous refrences to future scheduled event, which should have no place in wikipedia as they cannot be verified until after the event occur.
  • practicaly every word on this page is wikified.
  • info completly duplicated in List_of_casinos_in_the_United_States BO; talk 22:34, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • This article should be expanded to include the legality of Casinos in the state, probably focusing on how they were illegal until the recent controversial vote to allow them, which had prompted the construction of the four here. It could also be discussed the impact of the states just across the borders (a la Cincinnati) where there is a huge amount of advertising for business. —Ed!(talk) 16:32, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name Problem

  • this list includes casinos which have not opened - and should not be on the list. Remove them o rename the list accordingly - e.g. "list of casions that may open or may close in Ohio" BO; talk 13:09, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well, as of this week, one of them is now open. It negates the problem, I think. —Ed!(talk) 16:34, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

This page should not be speedily deleted because (a) this is a LIST article, which has very different criteria than normal articles; (b) there is NO speculation about future events here; all four casinos are, at minimum, under construction. (Yes, the article might more properly be called "List of casinos in Ohio that are open or under construction", but readers can figure that out.)

The problem is not the intelligence of our good readers. The problem is that this page provides nothing but promotion for these casinos. And as such should not be included in this wikipedia. And that development of this article has been forbeeden on technical grounds. Though I have searched for special criteria on list I have not found or been shown any.BO; talk 21:43, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As to whether the casinos themselves are noteworthy, it seems obvious to me that they will get a certain amount of publicity - for example, the Cleveland casino is covered here:

and one story mentions that the casino expects 5 million customers per year.

A search on Google News shows more than 500 stories on the topic of "horseshoe casino cleveland "

Yet this is not an article on "horseshoe casino cleveland" it is on casinos in Ohio - not a state famous for it's casinos. The single source provided here is not a reliable one.BO; talk 21:43, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think my intervention here has removed the speculative info introduced by WP:COI editing. I still think that all these Casio list should be combined - since:

  • seperately they are not notable
  • not conductive to introdicing specific information on each state where it should belong - as indicated above.
  • are a precedent on how to intorducing promotional list of materials by foriegn concerns. BO; talk 21:42, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However the timing of editing events on this page seem to indicate the existance of an editing cabal operating anonymously on behalf of the Gambling industry. I do not have the resources to investigate this claim but perhaps other readers here do. Please be advised of this possiblility.BO; talk 21:42, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A fairly ineffective cabal, then, since none of the four casinos listed actually has (at the moment) an article specifically about it. That despite (see my comments above) the fact that there are now plenty of reliable sources from which to build an article at least on the subject of the Cleveland casino. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 00:44, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think they are very effective.
  • It looks to mee like work on Casions is going on though not at a feverish rate.
  • That certain casinos (belonging to specifc mother companies) have excelent coverage
  • That lots of anonymous WP:COI edits are taking place
  • That these get lots of support from very experinced editors.
  • That the WP:COI editors are fully aware of discussion on cretain admin pages. BO; talk 10:49, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
