Talk:List of burial mounds in the United States

This page needs serious work

Several of the mounds on this list aren't burial mounds, they are platform mounds or effigy mounds, not used for burial. This list could be useful, if it was done correctly. Many of the Adena and Hopewell mounds in Ohio and the surrounding areas are primarily burial mounds. You should find some books on the subject, as the subject is thin online, and do some systematic research, instead of indiscriminately adding mound sites from around the country. Cahokia has many mounds, originally over 100, but Mound 72 is a very famous burial mound. At the Spiro Site, the Craig mound is the only burial mound, with 11 other mounds at the site. A little research and some writing could make this a nice article. Heironymous Rowe (talk) 05:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for my erroneous additions. Feel free to remove them. I'll try to remove the ones you pointed out. Swampyank (talk) 15:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article I came here hoping to found would be a list of all mounds. Leave the non-burial mounds in and just retitle the article "List of Native American mound sites in the United States". List of burial mounds will inevitably include multiple mounds from some sites, exclude altogether sites with no burial mounds, and only include minor burial mounds from a site much better known for more prominent non-burial mounds.192.104.39.2 (talk) 18:56, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We could move the article to that title if no one has a problem. Swampyank (talk) 20:34, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Considering this list is already sorted by this criteria, it would be better to create a new page for List of prehistoric mounds in the United States, and put a link to this page on it. As well as List of Mississippian sites, List of Adena culture sites, List of Hopewell sites, and List of Fort Ancient sites. Heiro 21:21, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A category for that criteria also already exists Category:Mounds in the United States. Heiro 21:24, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about the Reservoir Stone Mound and the Great St.. Louis Mound (the latter might not have been a burial mound)? Kdammers (talk) 04:22, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
